A short and violent life

You lived a short and violent life.
You only became 21 years old.
Was it for the fame and glory,
or was it for justice?

They killed the only father you ever had.
You declared war and lost many friends.
Was it worth it?
Or do you regret what you did?

Did you ever find your Juliet?
Or did your life end before you did?
I hope you at least once felt love
before your life ended.

Your old friend Pat Garrett
tracked you down a summer night.
Your short life burned out
just like a candle in the wind.
Why

Why Billy?
Why did you do the things you did?
They say you are bad.
Are you?
I don't know what to believe.

The only law you knew
was the law of the gun.
With your six-shooter
you killed 21 men.
Why? Can you tell me that?

You spent your life running
trying to stay alive.
What kind of life is that?
I don't think you liked it
but you didn't know how to stop.

Old friends turned to enemies.
What went wrong?
You could have been good,
but you chose the outlaw-life.
Or did you?

Killed in Fort Sumner
by your own friend.
You left your life in a blaze of glory
and became a legend.
Was that the way you wanted it?
The life of Billy the Kid

Born on a winter day
a new life started.
They didn't know
what that child would be.

You moved to Silver City
and you lost your mother.
This young orphan turned
to a life of crime.

Billy the Kid
was the name you got.
Everybody knew your name
and many felt your anger.

You got many friends,
but most of them died.
It must have been
a lonely life you lived.
How to survive

These was
very hard
times.

The only justice
was in the barrel
of a gun.

In these times
you grew up,
Billy.

To survive
you had to be
smart.

Be able to shoot
was necessary
then.

You did fine
until one
night.

That night
you left your
hard life.
On the run

Did you ever feel safe
having to run every day?
Many people liked to kill you
for the money and glory.

You were caught
and sentenced to hang
by the neck
until you were dead.

But you escaped
by killing two guards.
And so you were
on the run again.

Your freedom
didn't last long.
A few weeks later
you were killed.

You were buried
with two of your friends.
And on the tombstone
they wrote "Pals".
Outlaw life

You have a price on your head.
You can't trust anyone.
When you least expect it
somebody can pull a gun on you.

It's a very dangerous life.
Every minute can be the last.
You are forced to kill
if you want to survive.

You can never leave your guns
and never turn your back
to people you don't trust.
Do you really want that life?
Living by the gun

You lived your whole life
with a gun in your hand.
Since the day you were born
you lived in danger.

You were caught many times,
but you always escaped.
Once you were promised a pardon,
but you never got it.

You tried to stop that life,
but they wouldn't let you.
You weren't allowed
to get away with it alive.

They paid your friend
some money for your blood.
He caught you and your gang
at Stinking Springs.

You were sentenced to hang,
but they couldn't kill you that easy.
With some help from your friends
you managed to escape.

When you visited your girl
in Fort Sumner one night
you were killed in the dark
by Pat Garrett.
Your life

Hated by many,
loved by a few.
That's your life,
take a good look at it.

Was that the way
you wanted your life to be?
Chased every day
by bounty-hunters.

Having to hide in the desert
along with the snakes and lizards.
Never sleep in a real bed,
never feel safe.

Shot at 21 by a friend,
you left this life.
You died very young,
but your spirit lives on.

The world
will never forget
this young killer
named Billy the Kid.
Young outlaw

You only became 21 years old.
Did you enjoy
these few years?

You turned your back on the law
when you were very young.
And since then you were an outlaw.

You were fast with guns,
but what life did they give you?
Always being suspicious on everyone.

With your name on a wanted poster
every lawman was looking for you.
But you never left New Mexico.

If you had done that
you might have survived.
But it was your home.

Fort Sumner became your
last resting place
and there you will live on forever.
Scars

How does it feel
to get shot?
Does it hurt much
when the bullet enters?

You have many scars
from all your gunfights.
Both in your body
and your mind.

Did you ever learn
to live with them?
Or did you feel
your scars every day?

Why did you do it, Billy?
Was it only for revenge
or was it something else?
Guess we'll never know.
Guardian angel

Was it an angel or the devil
always walking next to you?
You must have had protection
from someone since you always survived.

They thought nobody
could kill Billy the Kid.
I think they were right,
you were to be eternal.

But your guardian angel
failed you once.
Then you ended your short life
and began the eternal one.
Feelings

You have to run
from the pain every day.
But don't worry,
time will release you.

Do you feel guilty
for the things you did?
When you die
you can let go of these feelings.

How does it feel
to kill someone?
To take
another man's life.

You did that many times
in your short life.
But then somebody
did the same thing to you.

Finally you were able
to stop running and rest.
Good night
and sleep well, Billy.
Truth

Tell me your story, Billy.
I want to hear the truth,
because I've heard
so many rumours.

What happened that day
when you shot Brady?
Did you kill him,
or was it someone else?

Some say you killed 21 men.
Is that true?
Or did somebody invent that number
just to make you sound worse?

There are many myths
about you, Kid.
I wonder how many of them
that are true.

What happened in July 1881
in Fort Sumner?
Did Garrett take your life,
or did he let you go?

I will never know
your side of the story.
But I will try
to find the truth somewhere.
Be remembered

Death is looking for you, Billy
and there is nowhere to run
and nowhere to hide.
He will find you one day, Kid.

But try to stay alive
as long as possible.
Try to make the most
out of your life.

You have escaped from many people
and many prisons,
but you can't escape death.
Or can you?

The only way to cheat Death
is to be remembered
after you've left this life.
And you will be that.

This young boy
and his deeds
will forever live
in our history.
Two sides

A wild heart
a cool mind
a steady hand
a sharp brain.

That's what you had,
that's what made you you.
It made you stay cool
in dangerous situations.

One minute you could
laugh and be happy
and the next
you could kill a man.

Your friends never saw
your other side.
They only knew
your good side.

For your enemies
it was the other way round.
That's why we have
two different stories.

One tells the story
of a mad killer
and the other is about
an innocent young boy.
You against them

Your destiny lies
in your own hands.
Try to make
the best of it.

You want to live
wild and free.
But some people
won't let you do that.

They want you to
sit in silence.
Accept it when
they steal legally.

When you didn't do that
you became an outlaw.
But who was the biggest criminal,
you or the politicians?
Lullaby

Good night, Billy
and sleep well.
Don't think about your past,
concentrate on your future.

Do the ghosts come to you
when you are asleep?
All your victims
searching for revenge.

Just close your eyes,
let the campfire calm you.
Your memories won't harm you
if you don't let them.

The night is soon over,
a new day is dawning.
The ghosts will disappear
when the sun starts to shine.

You made it through
another night.
Now try to get through
another day.
Sleep well

Quien es?
were your last words.
But you never got the answer
to that question.

Your own friend
shot you down.
But you were dead
before you saw his face.

Sleep well, beloved
your girl said at your grave.
I can only hope
that you do that.

Ashes to ashes
and dust to dust.
That's what happens
to your body.

But your soul
will never die.
You will live on
forever.
Book of life

Sitting under a tree
looking through the pages
of your life.
Do you like what you see?

Guns and violence
on every page.
A few pages
with love and peace.

Your time is running out,
you have to move again.
It isn't much sand left
in your life's hour-glass.

Do you believe
in God and heaven?
If you do, maybe it's time
to start praying.

If you are loved by someone
when you leave this life
you will live on forever
in their hearts.
Stay with me

You don't have to go yet,
stay with me a while.
You are safe here,
nothing will harm you.

But you had to go.
An outlaw can't stay
at the same place
for a long time.

Take care of yourself
and promise to come back.
I want to hold you
in my arms again.

Next time I saw you
was your last night alive.
You left me, I heard shots,
you never came back.

I miss you so much, Billy
and I will never forget you.
Some day, somewhere
we'll meet again.
Alone

The wind is howling,
you are sitting alone in the dark.
Where are your friends, Billy?
Are they all gone?

The outlaw life is tough,
to never be safe.
Having to sleep
under the clear sky every night.

You don't know where
you are going.
You don't know how
this can be stopped.

The desert is your friend,
it protects you from lawmen.
But you can't stay there
all your life.

You have debts to pay
and you will pay with blood.
It's the only way
your sins will be forgiven.
Invincible

You were a legend
in your own time.
Children looked up to you,
wanted to be like you.

How can a killer
be so famous?
What was it they liked
so much about you?

Was it your skills with guns
or maybe your courage?
You were fearless and
you seemed to be invincible.

No man could beat you
in a fair fight.
You were always
the last man standing.

But your luck ran out
a warm summer night.
Your friend killed you
in an unfair fight.
Famous and forgotten

The women loved to sing
about their boy bandit king.
But where is he now,
this boy called El Chivato?

Is he still alive
or does he rest
in heaven or hell?
Who can tell me that?

Rumours about this outlaw
spread like fire.
Is he caught, is he killed?
No one knows the truth.

Somewhere in the desert
rides a man alone.
His name is wellknown,
the man is William H. Bonney.

Searching for a place
to spend the night.
Poor boy, it's your destiny
to be alone.

The people will soon hear
new stories about this outlaw.
But they always forget
the young boy behind the stories.
Run to me

One day in Lincoln
they brought you in.
The whole town came to see
this famous outlaw.

Now you are standing alone.
No friends to help you.
The only thing you got left is your life,
but they want to take that too.

Don't let them do that,
run away and stay alive.
You can get your revenge
another day.

I feel so lonely
when you aren't here.
They won't let me see you,
but we'll meet again.

You will get your freedom back
if only for a short while.
Then you can run to me,
I will protect you, always.
Hunted

Hear the sound of guns
as he to me runs.
Bullets are fast,
they hope to get you at last.

But you will be free,
be here with me.
But you can't stay here,
your enemies are near.

You have a price on your head
and they want you dead.
So go now, don't stay,
you will find a way.

Isn't it a shame,
a murder can give fame.
The man who brings you down
will soon wear the crown.

In the dark night
came your last fight.
Now to your final sleep
in the earth so deep.
A raven

Living by the gun,
you're called the devil's son.
Who can tell me the truth
about this outlaw-youth?

How come I love you so much,
is it your face or your gentle touch?
We can start a new life
where I will be your wife.

But I know it isn't true,
I will never get you.
They want to take you away from me
and hang you up in a tree.

But in this case
they will have a hard chase.
I hope you can fly
as the birds in the sky.

Watch out for the raven
and try to find a haven.
This raven was your friend
but now that has come to an end.

Like a hunter at night
he will shoot you on sight.
You can't escape this,
so hope that he'll miss.
A deadly game

You have a sharp mind,
the best you can find.
You turned to theft
and the easy life you left.

You wanted glory and fame,
for you it was just a game.
But it's a deadly game you play,
try to survive the day.

A friend turned to foe,
I wonder how it will go.
He'd like to catch you,
just to get famous too.

Slowly you ride into town
where you'll be brought down.
You don't know it yet,
that you your fate have met.

You will sleep in a grave tonight
if you lose this fight.
Your blood will wet the floor
and you will go through heaven's door.
True or false

Brushy Bill Roberts,
true or false?
He claimed to be you,
but I have my doubts.

Did you really escape
Garrett's bullets that night?
Were you that lucky,
or is it just a lie?

A lie to get your fame
and die a known man.
I don't know what
to believe anymore.

Please give me a sign,
show me the truth.
I want to know
if you lived on.

Or did you die at 21?
Did you leave this life
when it had just begun?
Please tell me the truth.
A real friend

Death and destruction,
big parts of your life.
Did you want your life
to be like that?

You wanted to be famous,
and people tremble at your name.
But does that make you happy
or just more lonely?

Do you have any real friends
who'd do anything for you?
Or will they turn their backs on you
when it gets too dangerous?

A true and real friend
will always stand by your side.
Even if it means to die,
he will never betray you.

You were betrayed by a friend,
but he was no real friend.
Money was more dear to him,
so he sold your life.
A legend

This man and his life
are stuck in my heart.
I don't know how or why
but he's there to stay.

Something in his story
touches my heart.
I feel sorry for him
because of his dark fate.

He was just a young boy
without a family.
Now he is a legend,
even in his own time.

But what makes a legend,
the notches on his gun?
They are said to be 21,
but no one knows for sure.

The stories are many,
but somewhere is the truth.
To this man I send
my everlasting love.
Lost love

A love so strong
it can defeat death.
But it only exists in fairy-tales,
not in the real world.

My love is gone
and nothing can change it.
My love couldn't save him,
so they took him away.

Love can't stop a bullet,
that's something I've learned.
I would gladly give my life
just to be with him.

I will never love another
like I love him.
He was my first love
and might be my last.

Even if the person dies
the love doesn't fade.
I will keep him in my heart,
but it will never be the same.
