| Quintessential Understanding Government We must continue to improve the control of governments by the governed. Free Enterprise It must be made clear that it is the share-holders, not the company execu-tives, who own the companies. We must give the real owners of public companies more say and more information on company operations. Education Public education must be deregulated and the system reorganized to produce graduates properly equipped to think individually and to meet society's needs collectively. Governments' role is to fund basic education, establish a core curriculum and set standards. Equality The principal objective of social justice should be fairness. Fairness does not mean enforced equality. Energy Civilization has no future without adequate energy. The only foreseeable long-term source of safe clean energy is nuclear. The only obstacles are political, not technical. Religion Religion and science are two complementary aspects of our search for understanding. They need to interact and both must evolve in order to stay abreast of knowledge and provide a sound basis for our civilization. Sex The developed countries of the world face imminent disaster because their fertility ratios have fallen well below the replacement ratio of 2.1, to 1.6 on average. If this ratio falls below 2.1 globally the human race will become extinct. Nature is powerless to stop this outcome. We will have to solve the problem for ourselves. The Environment The environment is rapidly becoming a ward of our species. We must develop an eco-morality that will help us to manage it in a way that will assure us of the availability of its resources for the future. |
