You can see below the history of Mr. Carlos Gasparetti, that shows how the idealism surpasses the obstacles.
"Since I first saw the serie "Lost in Space" in TV channel 7, serie which was sponsored by Wander Laboratory (that produced the Ovomaltine), I was enthusiastic about the idea of manufacturing the B9 Robot. My first attempt at constructing the B9 was using the reservoir of an insecticide bomb to form the body. The result was not good, however the obsession to construct the B9 was deep in my mind. At this time I was a 31-year-old man and I was working as a salesman at Geralplas, a Company which manufactured products in plastic. I made a research and I convinced myself that the robot would be well-accepted by the public and that it would be a sell-out. I developed the project and I presented it to the owners of the Company.
The first obstacle was the high cost to manufacture the molds and the Company was reluctant to invest. But I did not give up. I decided to make the molds myself with my own hands. I shaped the arms and the body in plaster than I ordered to cast them in "zamak" , an alloy of metals. Who made this work was the Fundição Angelo Galli in Sâo Paulo, that was specialized in casting in "Terra Portuguesa", method that nowadays is in disuse.
The molds of the base, head, claws and rollers, were projected by me and executed by a man specialized in using some tools to make or repair things. He reused scrap iron in his work. With the molds ready, the Company did not have to pay to make them, so they decided to buy the molds and dye 3 tons of polyethylene in gray, copper and blue. It was my intention that the consumers had at their disposal, three options of colour for purchase. In the first customer I visited, a very large store which I would not like to mention the name, I negociated the selling of 30.000 robots in exchange for one week of exclusiveness. I was euphoric, therefore my part of the profits would enable me to buy my house and stop paying rent.
There were many potential customers to be visited and the possibility of doing business with the Wander Laboratory.
But, when the capitalist partner of the Company (Geralplas) saw the purchase volume ("30.000 robots ???") he started to put obstacles. First, he found that the B9 was patented, otherwise, the manufacture of toys "Estrela" would have already manufactured it. He said that he would only manufacture the robots if he had permission from the patentee. I visited many distributors of films in São Paulo for more than 2 months, without having success in finding out if there was a patentee or not.
I tried other solutions but the Company´s partner was never satisfied. In my immaturity, I found that he was putting a cheat upon me. He told me that according to the law the molds belonged to the Company and that I had nothing to prove the contary. I made a fool of myself when I threatened a millionaire. As a result I was fired. The molds remained on the Company for 20 years and only after the leaving of the partner in 1988 could I have the molds back.
I ordered to manufacture 1.000 robots and I started selling the B9 as antiquity, since the manufacture process was not in use anymore.
About the Ovomaltine: The Wander Laboratory, old producer of Ovomaltine located at Rua. Vergueiro - São Paulo, was sponsoring the serie "Lost in Space" . I went there and offered the robot, so that they could make a sales promotion such as: buying 6 units of Ovomaltime you win a B9 Robot toy. However, I could not continue the project because the person in charge of this negotiation had cancelled the selling. The time passed and they lost interest in buying the robots.
Later, the Wander Laboratory sponsored the serie "Land of the Giants", that did not reach the same success as "Lost in Space".
