Halloween Group Fiction Part 2
Spooky Nights and
Candy
Halloween was finally here. Maggie’s favorite time of year,
it was festive, fun and wasn’t as centered on family ties as other the fall
gatherings were. The young doctor loved her adopted family in
Shaking off those thoughts, the young doctor viewed herself in the front hallway mirror. Luna had talked her soul sister into letting her pick out their Halloween costumes. The scientist should have known better as the leopard cop had decided they needed to shake things up, be a bit daring.
Sighing as she tried to pull up her skin tight black shirt, Maggie conceded Luna might be right. The scientist had been spending a lot more time lately alone in the lab. The wereleopards who lived with them wouldn’t go there because the lot of them tried to keep away from Jean Claude and Luna had been busy of late as well. The doctor wasn’t sure what her sister was up to and to be truthful wasn’t sure she wanted to know. Smiling, the young woman told herself in the mirror, “Judging from the outfit she put me in, she might be starting a prostitution ring.”
Her soul sister stuck her head out of the kitchen to blow a raspberry at her, adding, “You look fabulous. A hooker would never go to that much trouble to complete the look…” thinking about a minute she added, “unless they were very high end.”
“Gee that makes me feel a LOT better,” Maggie groaned but smiled which ruined the effect.
“Always glad to help Kitten,” Luna winked, laughed and headed back into the kitchen. She was supposedly helping Josh make cookies but truthfully she was probably taking more than she was baking.
Maggie finally gave up on the trying to make the outfit cover more. Pulling the shirt up to cover more of her chest only left her midriff even more exposed than before. Her breasts threatened to spill out of the top but she couldn’t deny how feminine she felt in the push up bra and black leather miniskirt that gave way to high heeled black leather boots. The doctor’s hair had been temporarily dyed black with purple and silver streaks scattered throughout and then pulled back away from her face with barrettes. Her make up was simple but effective complimented by sliver glitter that dusted her skin. She had just pulled a long leather duster out to put on when she heard a car pull into the driveway.
Setting the coat down, the scientist picked up a bowl of candy before opening the door to find her goddaughter, Spring, standing there. Esther was visible by the car helping Keiran get out.
Grinning Maggie bent down asking her first Hallow’s Eve visitor, “Spring, how come you never told Auntie Mags that you were really a fairy?” The young girl giggled and walked into her godmother’s arms for a hug before stepping back to look at the candy in the bowl. As she grabbed a piece, the doctor told her, “You look so pretty princess.”
A whistle from down the hall had the woman quickly standing to glare back at Joshua as she tugged at her skirt.
He meandered down the hall. “The whistle was for the pretty fairy Mags. I hadn’t even noticed you.” He winked and stepped past the woman to pick up Spring.
Maggie turned back to the doorway as Esther came up the walk with Keiran. The young doctor grinned at the little boy. “You’re going to give Uncle Luce some fierce competition for cutest devil there bud.” She turned to her friend, “Awesome looks Sweets! Did Johnny Depp inspire you?”
The young mother blushed at the compliment. “Thanks, you
look gorgeous. Did Luna dress you up?”
Looking down at her cleavage and bared midriff, Maggie asked, “That obvious huh?”
Her pretty young friend pinched her fingers together, “Just a tad.”
Josh, still holding Spring, walked up to the young doctor and kissed her on the cheek. “You seriously look like a knock out Mags. That Druid doesn’t know what he’s missing.” He turned to the other woman and grinned. “Hubba Hubba. Do you need an escort for the evening…. Or the night,” he added wiggling his eyebrows.
It was about then that Luna came walking up behind the group and slapped her pardmate upside the head. “She can way better than you so quit flirting. You been hanging out with Jason or what? Besides you’re on door patrol.”
The young man pouted. “I miss out on all the fun. Why is that?”
“Cuz you’re nuffin but trouble,” Luna teased in a sing song voice.
Josh raised an eyebrow as he sat Spring down on her feet by her brother. “This from the woman dressed like an escaped convict?”
Their British friend eyed Luna’s orange prison jump suit and one handcuff worn as a bracelet. Pointing at the sheathed blade sticking out from under one sleeve and the gun visible at the cop’s ankle when she moved, Esther mused. “I don’t think most prisoners are so well equipped with weapons.”
The cop grinned. “How do you think I escaped?” Shrugging she added, “Besides we’re walking the streets with the little ones. No way am I going unarmed.” Turning to the small family she grinned, “You all look GREAT by the way. We ready to go?”
The doctor frowned at her sister. “What’s the rush? I wanted to take some pictures of the kids in their costumes.”
“Don’t pout Kitten. I’ve told you before, it isn’t a good look for you,” she teased. “Besides I promised the boys we’d stop by Guilty Pleasures on the way to show them our costumes. I want to get in and out of there before the customers start showing up. We can take some shots there.”
“I was wasn’t pouting, just frowning a bit…” the doctor sighed at her sister’s raised eyebrow. “Okay so maybe it was a pout but you drove me to it. Guilty Pleasures? Jean Claude isn’t going to be around is he? On the other hand, there will be lots of eye candy to enjoy. We better get there before the guys are too bare for all ages company.” Grinning she grabbed her coat and ushered the small group out toward the car. “Okay, I got shotgun!”
Luna shook her head at her sister. “Oh look a chicken,” she called out laughing at the looks from the others. “She’s connected to me so she’s easily distracted. If you don’t mind driving Sweets, I’ll sit in the back with the kids.”
Esther shook her head, “No I don’t mind. It will probably be safer that way.”
“Hey my driving isn’t as bad as that…”
The young mother smiled innocently at her friend, “What? I just meant that way
you’d have both hands free in case of trouble.”
The doctor laughed as she climbed into the car, “Good save Sweets.”
Luna pointed at her soul sister. “It’s a da…” looking at the children she quickly amended her statement, “really good thing I love you, brat.”
Spring giggled at that as she climbed into the middle seat of the car. “Auntie Luna called Auntie Mag Mag a Brat!” Giggling more she repeated, “Mag Mag brat.”
Looking back at Luna at as she climbed in beside Spring, the doctor rolled her eyes, “Gee thanks Sis. I love you too.” Turning in her seat she reached back to tickle her goddaughter. “As for you. I’ll teach you all about being a brat.”
The young girl giggled even more at that, forgetting what she was saying until
she was interrupted by her mother saying, “Oh no, you won’t. I don’t need you
corrupting my children,” as she finished buckling Keiran
into his car seat.
“I know you don’t need me to Sweets. It’s just my little gift to you.” The blonde woman shot back with a grin.
Shaking her head, the young mother wondered what she had gotten herself into as she got into the car and they headed out.
The drive into town and Guilty Pleasures was a short but
pleasant one. Maggie, being in charge of
the cd player in the front
seat put Bon Jovi in. She wasn’t so sure Luna was
happy with the selection but the doctor, Esther and even her cute little fairy
were soon singing along with the
The wereleopard grinned from the back seat. “I wonder if Papa likes this song with it being about being dead and all…”
The doctor turned in her seat to blow a raspberry at her and said “It’s not about being dead. It’s about being alive. Anyway I don’t think Jean Claude is into music from the 1980s. It’s probably too common for him or something.”
Both girls in the front seat jumped as the door next to Keiran came open. Micah leaned in telling the scientist, “You might be surprised what things Anita has taught the Master.” Grinning at Luna’s costume, he reached over to unbuckle Keiran as the others got out. “The boys are waiting for you if you’re through with the hair band serenade.”
As they all headed into the building the doctor quizzed the pard leader. “So what brings you to GP tonight?”
”I gave Nathaniel a ride down. I needed to meet with Jean Claude about something
anyway.” His arm snaked out to grab Maggie who had abruptly tried to turn
around at the mention of her employer. “Asher is here too. You wouldn’t want
him to miss out on seeing your costume now would you? You all look so cute.” He
winked back at Luna who nodded that she’d make sure nobody got left behind.
Before the young blonde could come up with an acceptable excuse they were inside the building. She forgot her trepidation as she watched both Greg and Nathaniel fuss over how cute the children looked in their costumes. The young doctor thought she saw a wistful look in Greg’s eye as he told Esther what a lovely pirate she made.
“You’re going out in public like that?” Maggie groaned as she recognized the voice asking as that of her ex, Noah. Turning to the leopard guard she sighed, “I should have known if Micah was here, you must be around. Where were you when he came out to the car? Doesn’t that fall under dereliction of duty or something?”
“He asked me to take care of something and besides don’t try
to change the subject,” Noah started but the blonde cut him off.
”I am changing the subject from my attire which is really not anything for YOU
to be concerned about anymore.” She raised an eyebrow.
“Well somebody should be.” He muttered.
Esther grinned at the pair then looked down at her children
who were watching the scene with interest. “I think Uncle Noah is just jealous
that we get to spend to time with Auntie Mags and he
doesn’t. She looks pretty huh?”
The tykes nodded as another voice added his agreement. “Oui. I wonder if I’m not wasting your talents
letting you hide out in the lab Margaret. You would make a lovely addiction to
my hostess staff at Danse Macabre in that outfit.”
Jean Claude smiled, walking up to the group. He took Esther’s hand to kiss it
then told her, “You would of course be a wonderful addiction as well. You look
charming as always.” Turning to Luna he asked, “Did you lose a bet?”
The female leopard kissed his cheek. “You have no sense of humor. A cop dressed as a villain… come on…. Even you have to get that one.” She grinned.
The melodic laughter of Asher sent shivers down all three women’s spines as he stepped into the light next to his Master. “She does make a good point Mon Amie.” Turning to the two human girls he added, “But then so does he. You two should consider helping us out at the club, especially with the holiday events coming up in the next few months.”
Maggie shook her head, “I’m sure the were clinic will need the extra help way more than the club does and Esther has the kids to look after,” she added to prevent her friend from having to come up with an excuse not to spend time with Asher. She turned to the beautiful redhead who smiled a silent thank you for the save.
Jean Claude merely shrugged and smiled cryptically. “We shall see Mademoiselles. In the mean time, I leave you to your… trick or treating… Micah are you ready?” The Nimir-Raj nodded and followed the vampires down the hallway. Noah had no choice but to tag along though he did glare at the girls as he left.
With the vampires gone the girls relaxed and consented to model their outfits for Greg and Nathaniel while they got some shots of all the costumes for them. Pictures of the group taken care of, the boys confessed they needed to get ready for work so the girls headed out with the kids to hit the streets for goodies.
They started with a few local friends who wanted to see the
kids’ outfits and could be trusted to have good candy then worked their way out
onto neighboring streets. The only friend they missed was
Maggie frowned at her, “I lived in one of those neighborhoods with Noah and it never bothered me.”
“Yeah but you hadn’t come into your full power yet. Besides it did too bother you. Don’t tell me you have forgotten the dreams you used.” The leopard countered.
“No I haven’t forgotten but I have better control of them now…. Most of the time… Besides it will be fun for the kids.” The doctor was unmoved.
Esther wanting to prevent a fight interjected, “How about we try Maggie’s old neighborhood first? If either of us becomes uncomfortable we can turn around and leave. I really want the children to be able to visit a few more houses before it gets too late for them.”
Looking at the pair, Luna couldn’t argue with both of them. They would just go without her. Sighing in defeat she nodded her assent and they got back in the car to head over to the older part of town.
It didn’t take them long to get there and didn’t start out
too badly. Maggie joked that perhaps
since most days the ghost could only talk to people like them, they were using
the traditionally thin-veiled day to find some new company. The children’s bags were full and Keiran was starting to get a bit cranky, not wanting to say
“Tri or Tree” anymore, a sure sign it was past his bedtime. The young mother
suggested they turn back. Maggie nodded then noticed an isolated house on the
corner of the next block.
Pointing at it she told them, “Look how lonely that house looks. We should go
knock on their door. They probably haven’t gotten many visitors.”
Her soul sister shook her head. “Maggie it looks like that house might not even be occupied. The yard doesn’t look like it’s been kept up at all and it’s rather dark.”
The doctor started heading toward the building in question.
“Well it is Halloween. Maybe they decorated it to look that way..”
Esther asked, “Killed their yard for a Halloween decoration?”
Maggie sighed, “Well maybe not but maybe it’s just an old
couple that can’t get out to do their yard. Seeing
little kids always makes older people happy. We should take them over to say hi
even if they don’t have any candy to share.”
Spring sounded surprised and her lip wobbled a bit. “No candy? Will they want
ours?”
The doctor smiled reassuringly at her goddaughter. “No but wouldn’t it be nice to say hi and make them smile?” As the girl’s nod she grinned and resumed her walk to the corner house. “Something is just telling me we need to drop in anyway.” She muttered more to herself than anything.
The group made their way over to the house and up the stairs though Luna was surer with every step the place was vacant. She couldn’t hear anything coming from inside and the place smelled musty.
Maggie walked up to the door and not seeing a doorbell knocked the old wooden door which swung inward at her prompt. She called out into the house. “Hello. Is anyone home?” She strained to listen for voices as the kids yelled “Trick or Treat” behind her.
The female wereleopard shook her head. She had a bad feeling about this. Esther suddenly moved up next to Maggie, “I think I heard someone call out for help in there.”
The blonde nodded, “I did too. You stay with the kids. I”ll go check...” She ran into the house as she saw someone run down the hallway calling out, “Hey do you need a hand?”
Luna looked from Maggie’s retreating form to Esther. “Who is
she talking to?”
”The guy that just ran through the hallway of course.” The young mother looked
at her leopard friend like she was daft.
“There was no guy Esther. Wait, you two see a guy but I don’t see him and heard… oh shit!” Luna went running into the house after Maggie barely hearing Spring’s gasped, “Mommy she said a bad word!”
