Turning Points: Chapter One/?

By Elijah and Maggie

Maggie had been working on paperwork in her home office and getting nowhere. She was worried. Elijah and she had gone out dancing a few nights before and they were attacked in the parking lot outside his hotel. They didn’t know what kind of creature it was but it seemed unstoppable even for the Tore and the pair barely got away intact. Well, the young scientist was intact because her druid friend had locked her safely in the car. He hadn’t fared so well.

The creature had cut Lija’s arm. It was a superficial wound but oddly wasn’t healing, as it should. Elijah called and she convinced him to come by and let her take a look. She noticed when he came in the door he had blood on his shirt. He removed his shirt and lay down on the exam table in her small office. The doctor gave him a couple stitches to close the wound then sighing sat down next to the exam table. Her melancholy was not lost on her friend.

“What can I do to cheer ya up?” The Druidic Tore asked.

Laying her head down on table next to him, Maggie dejectedly answered, “I don’t know. I don’t think you are in any condition to help.”

Smiling, he answered,  “Well let's just see about that.” Jumping up from the table, he grabbed Maggie’s hand and headed for the door.

Looking skeptically at the shifter as he pulled her toward the door, she asked,  “Are you sure you are feeling okay to be up and around?”

Elijah enthusiastically answered, “I feel great! Let's go running in the woods!”

“Running in the woods? Are you sure you're okay?” She bumped into him as he stopped to answer.

“I forgot you aren't as fast as I am.” He knelt down to let her onto his shoulders.  “Climb on!”

Shrugging her agreement, Maggie grabbed on.  “If you say so. Are you really sure you are okay?”

The Tore reassured her, “ I'm okay. Hold on tight.” Ducking to get out the door of the office, he rushed down the hall and out the back door.

“Okay, I'm holding. Yikes.” A bit apprehensive, she grabbed him tighter.

Running down the walk they took a right heading up the street. Using his were strength, Lija ran full out. He could just imagine his friend’s neighbors looking out at them but truthfully he didn’t care. Feeling the air rush through her hair, the scientist looked down and realized they were going faster than she ever had on foot.  “Lija is this safe?”

“As long as you hold on Doc.” He reminded her.

“I am holding on...but remember it's mostly human strength. I'm not well connected to Luna right now. So, keep my weak human grip in mind before you try any acrobatics huh Druid?” Loosening up, she giggled as the air rushed by.

Still running at full speed he yelled, “Yes ma’am,” and headed in the direction of the neighborhood park. Arriving after park curfew, they snuck through the side gate. Lija had slowed down only to get through the gate. Then with a huge burst of speed, he took off like a mad man through the park dodging trees and other objects in their path. Maggie screeched, as he took off afraid they were going to crash into something.  She closed her eyes momentarily and held on for dear life.

Feeling his friend’s fear, he figured he'd better slow down a little. “I'll behave.”

Getting brave enough to open one eye to look around, she replied, “Yeah right. The bad ass Tore behave?” She giggled in spite of herself.

Laughing at the comment, he asked, “Wanna stop and sit on the grass?”

“It might help my equilibrium some. I'm getting a little dizzy to be truthful.” The scientist reluctantly admitted.

“Sorry Doc.” He sat on the ground so she could get off his shoulders.

She tentatively tried to get off his shoulders, couldn’t quite find her legs and end up falling on the ground beside him, giggling. Lija lay back on the ground laughing at her trouble. Maggie smiled down at him and explained as she caught her breath,  “It's okay. It's fun but scary. Kind of like a roller coaster.” Lying down next to him on the ground, she looked up at the stars. As her breathing slowly returned to normal, she mused, “It's so beautiful and peaceful out here. You could almost forget all the problems hanging over our head just outside the gate. A gate to protect The GATE, huh?” She shook her head and closed her eyes thinking about the whole situation with Luna and the prophecies.

Elijah, unsure how to address her worries, focused on the present, “I think a run is just what I needed.”

Remembering her friend’s earlier medical problem, she looked over at him, “Really? If you think it's helping, you could run more. I could stay here.”

“Oh no.  I run, you run with me. I won't leave you alone.” The Tore told her.

Rolling on her side to look at him more critically, she said, “You're color does look better. As for leaving me alone, the guard patrol was cancelled. Didn’t you get the memo?” she teasingly asked before laying her head on his shoulder and quietly adding, “Not that I really want you leave me.”

He jokingly answered,  “I wasn't one of the guards. I think I was what you were being guarded from.”

Smiling, she ran a finger along his chin.  “I don’t think so. Noah freaked out about the prophecy. He's better now. Do you think I need to be guarded from you? The doctor smiled innocently up at him while her finger lazily ran along his jaw.

Elijah softly answered, “If you knew what I was thinking right now...maybe.”

Grinning impishly, she asked, “How do you know I'm not thinking something similar? We are connected souls remember.” Smiling, he pulled her down for a kiss.  A sigh was lost on her lips as they meet his and she relaxed in the safety of his touch letting him lead where he would. Running his hands over her back and down her thighs, his mind screamed at him to stop but he didn’t.

Relishing the touch of his hands, as a tingly trace of power was left in the wake of every spot he touched, she opened her mouth encouraging him to deepen the kiss. She ran her fingers through his hair with one hand while the other hand moved slowly along his chest.

Opening his mouth to allow her tongue access he thought she tasted so sweet. He could feel her need and his own was overwhelming. It had been so long. Rolling them, he put her underneath kissing her neck, and nibbling her ears. Overwhelmed by the sensations, all she could think of was the man holding her. She nuzzled his neck, then kissed a line from his jaw to his ear, running her hands up and down his back, trying to pull him closer.

The Druid finally allowed reason room to speak, “Maggie we have to stop. I don't want to. But I....”

Moaning, not wanting to hear what he was saying, she continued to kiss him, his neck, his jaw, his chin before finally looking up at him with eyes that have gone completely silver, “but you...?”

Seeing her eyes, he realized he’d pushed too far. “I want this more than anything.”

Looking up at him, confusion and desire filling her eyes, she tentatively placed her hand on his cheek  “You know how much I want you. I haven’t exactly kept it a secret even if you weren’t a were.”

The Tore reminded her,  “But Noah…”

Closing her eyes she sighed, and tears ran down her cheeks. “Noah. It always comes back to him, doesn't it?” Opening her eyes to look at him, she asked, “Lija I'm confused. If Noah is my life mate like you and he say he is, why I am so drawn to you? Why can't I stand to be away from you for even a day?”

“Not even a day huh?” He asked.

Maggie smiled sadly up at him,  “Nope not even that long.”

Rolling again, he put her on top. “I may regret this. We both may. Just tell me. You want this as much as I do.”

Without hesitation she answered, “More than anything I think I've ever wanted in this lifetime. When I close my eyes, it's your smile I see. Your lips I want to touch.”

“Can you wait at least till we get to my place?” He asked.

Running a finger over his lips, not quite sure she could trust what she was hearing,  “Are you sure you won’t change your mind between here and there?”

He reassured her, “I promise.  I want this. Consequences be damned.”

Smiling, she leaned in and gave him one more soul-stealing kiss that left them both gasping for air before she pulled away. “Okay, that's just a reminder to get hotel fast.”

Getting to their feet, the Tore simply said, “Let's go.” He picked her up in his arms and ran back through the park the way they came. The came to stop near his humvee in Maggie’s driveway where he asked, “Do you need anything?”

Unable to think clearly, it took a minute for his question to register. She finally answered, “Um..I keep an overnight bag in the back seat of my car in case I'm kept at the hospital with patients. The car should be unlocked. If you grab that, I won’t have to go back inside.”

“Okay.” He set her feet on the ground and walked over to her car. He grabbed the bag, walked back over to the humvee and threw it into the back seat. They got in, buckled up and were off. As they drove toward the hotel, she closed her eyes to resist the urge to reach out to touch him, and focused on trying to slow her heart rate.

Trying to concentrate on his driving with the young doctor so close, Lija forgot all about the reason he had come by in the first place. Leaning her head against the window to try to keep from moving closer to him, Maggie quietly hummed a favorite tune.

Lija asked, “What song is that?”

Blushing she admitted, “It’s ‘I Get Excited’ by Rick Springfield.”  Smiling, he wasn’t surprised by the artist choice and the title certainly appeared to fit the mood of the night. Sparing her a quick glance and a wink, he refocused on getting them to the hotel as quickly as possible. The night had only begun.
