Rating: PG-13 for now for language and violence. It will probably move to R in later chapters though due to more graphic violence and sex so if that is going to be a problem you might want to steer clear of this story.
Notes: This is going to a story that is largely based in the WWE with some paranormal elements. We are playing a bit loose with time lines of past WWE events and ages of stars as we see fit and will be trying to remain true to the characters in some cases rather than what we know of their real personal lives. If that is a problem, stop here.
Courting
Destruction Chapter 5/?
Rose walked down the crowded corridor towards the arena. Catching sight of her reflection in a mirror left for talent to do last minute primping, she shook her head at the black Security tee she was wearing. She couldn’t believe Steph and her cousin had talked her into this position. Yes she could admit she had a good eye for details and reading people. There was no doubt she could handle herself in a fight though how she would explain her strength if she actually had to use it was another story. Her dancer’s background would only cover so much. After much negotiation the trio had agreed Rose would officially be on the security team though her role would be more as a liaison between security and production allowing her to learn about both jobs.
While Solie hadn’t been able to finagle an actual position with the WWE Magazine as there were no openings, Stephanie had agreed to let her work as an assistant to any staff writers that came to shows to work on stories. The young executive also hinted that if the young journalism major wrote a good freelance article involving any of the guys they might find space for it in a future issue. So the grey eyed girl’s cousin wasn’t surprised to find her talking up the talent when she ran into her on her journey to the ring. What the strawberry blonde was surprised by was which talent her cousin was talking up.
Rose bristled as she came closer hearing the Rated-R
Superstar ask Lee, “So how much of me are you looking to uncover?”
The green eyed girl rolled her eyes, “Please, like there is any part of you
that a million woman haven’t already seen.”
The golden haired man turned to the newcomer. “I don’t believe we’ve met. “
“No we haven’t. I think I heard Orton was looking for you. Something about a handicap match he’d talked Mr McMahon into putting you in,” the strawberry blonde bluffed. She wasn’t sure it was Edge that Orton had been talking about on the phone when she walked by but she wanted him gone. Something about him just rubbed her the wrong way.
He turned to her cousin, “Guess we won’t get that expose in after all. Ladies,” he nodded and left.
Solie turned to her cousin a bit perturbed with her for ruining what could have been a good story. “Okay, Ro what gives? Any particular reason you ran him off?”
The strawberry blonde folded her arms over her chest. “What makes you think I was trying to run him off?”
“Please honey, we've been in each other's pockets since almost before we were born. I know when you want someone gone. I just wondered if you noticed something I missed.” Grey eyes darted down each direction of the hallway to make sure they were alone. “If you had picked up on some vibe I hadn’t,” she said meaningfully.
Rose shook her head dropping her arms down by her sides. “No. No, I didn't but,” her face scrunched up and her hands made a helpless gesture. “I don't like him...his eyes are too close together,” she said finally.
“Ah,” Lee answered. The two girls used that phrase whenever they didn't like someone but couldn't say why. It was a feeling they got and without another way to express the feeling it had become a reason. Though it did make them laugh from time to time.
The two girls wandered down the hallway Solie with her arms swinging at her sides while Rose had them behind her back one hand gripping the opposite wrist. “So what mission are you on now,” Lee inquired as they walked.
“Who said I’m on a mission,” she asked then sighed at the
look her cousin gave her. “Okay so maybe I am. Have you noticed how our dads
have still not said anything about why we’re really here? I know Steph didn’t
tell them about our little talk because I flat out asked her. Do you think they
are ever going to tell us….”
”Or just let nature take its course,” the gray eyed girl speculated.
Her cousin shook her head, “I think that is less likely than them thinking they could just find someone for us and put them in our path.”
Lee paled, “You don’t honestly think they would do that do you?” She paused for a moment thinking, “Hell they just might if they thought they were protecting us… making things easier.”
“Exactly. I don’t want to be throwing myself at the first acceptable candidate I find but I sure the hell don’t want to be thrown at whoever my dad thinks is appropriate either. So I was thinking we are going to have to find a way to make our feelings clear on the matter. You in?”
“Is water wet? Of course I'm in,” Lee replied an evil smirk on her face. She knew her father well enough to know that he would have an absolute fit about being told to stay out of her life. He might have her best interests at heart but the outcome was usually miserable for all involved.
The pair turned a corner wandering the corridors with their heads bent close. The young women received quite a few curious stares that they either ignored or didn't notice. It usually happened when the two got together and usually meant trouble.
“So what did you have in mind,” Solie asked when they had reached a relatively deserted section of the arena. The smile on her cousin's face could only be called mischievous. It caused Lee to laugh delightedly and she hadn't even heard the plan yet.
“Well my first thought was to ask Stephanie to just tell them she’d talked to us and we were handling things in our own way but that wouldn’t be fair to Steph… Plus she said no.” Running her fingers through her hair she added, “So I got a bit more desperate in my ideas. I considered latching on to the guys they would hate us being with most,” seeing the hopeful look in her cousin’s face she quickly added, “but I quickly realized that would just make them even more determined to find us other mates of their choosing.”
Solie pouted, “Well I’m not going to latch onto some guy just because Daddy will like him. That’s so not happening.”
“Agreed. That’s exactly what we’re trying to avoid. But how do we clear the air without having to go through the embarrassment we did with Steph? This is the best idea I could come up with on short notice. I don’t know if it will work but it might be fun regardless.” The strawberry blonde wiggled her eyebrows.
“Well then spill already before someone finds us,” her cousin growled.
“Okay I figured we use a little reverse psychology on them. We don’t want them picking our mates so how about we try playing match maker for them? I mean neither one of them has seriously dated anyone in a while. What if we went all yenta on them, offering them advise on who they should be looking to spend time with, that as their daughters we’re just worried about them being alone in the many years to come,” there was a decided twinkle in her eyes. “How long do you think it will take them to get frustrated and start lecturing us on how mating is a private matter between two consenting adults and we should butt out,” Ro grinned waiting for Lee’s response.
Lee had to slap a hand to her mouth to stifle her laughter. She was laughing so hard that tears leaked from the corners of her eyes. It took her a moment to get a grip on herself enough to be able to speak. “Oh Ro, that's priceless! And the kicker is that they're going to have to butt out of our search for the very same reason.”
The strawberry blonde had a thoughtful look on her face that gave her cousin pause. Platinum and onyx tresses flew around Solie's face. “Do you know how much I hate that face,” she commented folding her arms over an ample chest.
“I can't help it Lee,” Rose whined throwing her hands up in the air. “My brain won't let me leave out the fact that they could tell us that as our fathers they do get some say in the matter.”
“Well you know what I say to that...fuck that,” Solie bit out frowning hard at her cousin. “They can't have their cake and eat it too.”
“Lee, don't take that tone with me,” Ro warned her brows drawing together. “You know that I completely agree with you, which is why we're even having this conversation now.”
Solie growled low in her throat her hands clenching at her side. Without warning she turned punching the wall. Rose shook her head at the deep impression left in the drywall. The older girl frowned hard at that spot on the wall. “This fuckin' sucks,” she said in a voice more animal than human.
Rose stepped up to her cousin laying her hands on the other girl's shoulders. “Take a deep breath,” she returned calmly knowing that she was more than likely close to setting off another spontaneous fire. That was the last thing they needed right now. “Good, now another,” Ro encouraged. She rubbed her hand up and down her cousin's arms. “Feel better?”
“Not really,” Solie returned. “But I feel more in control and I guess that's something.” Her two toned head dropped to the side. “We've got company coming...meet you at catering later. You got your cell, right?”
“Yeah,” Ro answered. “Don't hesitate to call if you need me.”
“Ditto babe,” Lee returned. She grabbed the strawberry blonde's arm before she could leave. “We'll finish this conversation later okay?”
Rose nodded before heading down the hall away from her cousin. Solie jogged off in the other direction knowing that a quick run would help burn off the last of her anger. She was conscience of the fact that it was one of her triggers. The last thing she needed to do was give her dad a reason to shove some idiot down her throat.
