Courting Destruction: Chapter 11/?

Solie grinned at her cousin. “Come on Ro…  You worry too much. Honestly I think they have enough other things to worry about that neither of our dads is going to notice it. Besides I can always play off that I’m just wearing this thing because of being around so many strange people.”

The green eyed girl nodded, conceding. “Okay I’m willing to give it a try if you are. It’s your dad that is going to go ape shit if he finds out.”

”Finds out what,” a deep voice asked from behind Rose. Hunter Hearst Helmsley had caught the trio unaware.

The platinum blonde grinned disarmingly at her former crush. “Steph send you over to kill us for helping Shawn?”

He chuckled, “No I think once we recovered from the panic of thinking Aurora was truly kidnapped she remembered how much fun you two’s antics used to be. I’m reserving judgment. Don’t try to give me any more heart attacks,” he warned the pair with a stern look. “Is that what you were talking about?”

“You know Ro, I don't ever remember him being this stuffy...is it just me or is time playing with my memory,” Lee asked avoiding Hunter's question all together.

Rose turned to study the big man, a thoughtful expression on her face.  “Now that you mention it, it's not just you,” she stopped looking around then dropped her voice to a stage whisper.  “He has gone all parental on us.”

The two girls fell out laughing at their own joke while Triple H glowered at them.  “I'll have you know that I do have a sense of humor...just not when it's directed at me,” he answered gruffly.

“Ooh, a double standard,” Solie said still grinning before turning to look at the young man she was leaning against.  “If you tell me that you have 'em as well I may have change my mind about just how much I like you,” she finished nodding her head for emphasis.

“If I were you,” Hunter cut in before Jeff could respond.  “I'd be careful about just how much you like her.  Her dad's not exactly the most pleasant person.”

“Hunter,” Rose growled hoping to keep everyone from finding out whom their fathers were.

“Look, I really do understand why you want to keep it under wraps, but they're going to have to find out eventually,” the cerebral assassin told the strawberry blonde.

“And when we're ready for everyone to know we'll tell them...not before or until then,” Lee interrupted.

The Game just sighed, “Or until someone makes the wrong move toward one of you in their presence and all hell breaks loose.”

“Just who are your dads? Mass murderers or something,” Jeff asked.

“Or something,” Rose grinned then added. “Honestly they aren’t that bad. Besides they aren’t here,” she added pointedly looking at Hunter, “so there is no need to worry. Don’t you have baby presents to open or something?”

“That’s just what I was going to tell him,” Stephanie came walking up with Aurora in her arms and leaned into her husband. “Either that or you can hold your daughter while I do the honors.”

“I could hold her if you want me to,” Rose offered.

The brunette shook her head, “I don’t think so Rose. After today’s stunt, I think it’s going to be a while before either of you get babysitting duty. Maybe when Aurora is in college I’ll think about it.” She winked at the girls before dragging her husband off.

The strawberry blonde shook her head. “I don’t know if I should be pleased or offended. Either way I guess we’ll have plenty of free time in our off hours.” Turning to the man Solie was still leaning into, “Speaking of, with all the constant travel how does someone find a safe place to… you know… run if they need to left off a little steam?”

“Usually there's a few of us that head out every couple of days.  One of us always stays normal so the others can do their thing.  It's worked out pretty well for us.  If you'd like to be included let me have your numbers so I can give you a call for the next one,” Jeff told her not even bothering to pretend he didn't understand her meaning.

Rose looked at her cousin to see what she thought of the idea.  The line between other girl's brows told her that her cousin's clever mind was mulling over the possibility.  At last the platinum blonde shrugged one shoulder.  “I don't see where it would be a problem.  They can't very well say we're supposed to mingle and get to know people then in the same breath say we're not allowed to go out for a run.”

“Yes, but you do remember who we're talking about, right,” Rose asked even as she wrote down both hers and her cousin's numbers in the little spiral bound notebook.

“Yeah I do, which is why we're not going to tell 'em unless we absolutely have to,” Solie returned lightly.

“Are you sure that's a good idea,” Jeff chimed in.

Sighing, both girls looked at him shaking their heads.  “No we're not, but we're running under the assumption that what they don't know can't possibly hurt them,” Ro answered wearily.

The wrestler shook his head at the pair as he took their numbers from Rose. “If you say so but in my experience parents always find out eventually. The key is to make sure they find out too late to make much of a fuss over it.” He added winking at the girls.

Lee laughed at that. “Okay now I know you’re my kind of people.”

“And now I know I’m in even more trouble than I was before… if that’s possible.” Rose added with a dramatic sigh.

The platinum blonde turned to their companion, “Don’t let her fool you. She loves trouble just as much as we do. She just has a few more qualms about getting caught at it than most.”

“We’ll have to see if we can break her of that oddity,” Jeff added scratching his chin.

The trio shared a laugh at that not noticing the eyes that watched them intently from a distance.

“She's single and just coming into her power,” a seductive voice whispered in his ear, her hand trailing across his shoulders.  “You can feel it even from this distance.”

“I know that,” he told her gruffly removing her hand from his body.  “But at the moment she's surrounded by too many important people to make any kind of move.”

“She won't always be,” the female returned a little put out that he had rebuffed her attention.

Finally he turned dark eyes towards her.  “I know that Vickie,” he answered sharply, guilt pricking him as she jerked back.  He laid a comforting hand on her knee.  “I'm sorry that was uncalled for,” he admitted.  “Do you know what we could do with that kind of power on our side,” he questioned motioning with his chin in the direction of the girls.

“I do honey.  With her on our side we would be unstoppable.  We would no longer have to play to someone else's tune; we'd be the pipers and they'd dance to ours,” Vickie said as a sadistic smile played across her lips.

He shared her smile as he turned back to watching the girls from across the room.  “Soon sweetie, I'll have you right where I want you,” he said raising his glass and draining it.

The glass hit the bar with a resounding clack. The bartender was quick to refill the glass with whiskey.  “You know I never thought you'd be able to find something that succulent amongst all this trash,” a southern voice slurred.

Lance Cade smiled wickedly at Trevor’s comment as he continued to watch the girls from a distance. “She’s definitely got down home beauty and she’s filled with more potential than I think she even realizes.  The question is how do I tap into that power without her realizing she’s being used?”

His partner shook his head. “Do I need to answer that? You’re the pretty boy in this team. Tug on her heart strings a bit.” He swirled his glass of whiskey before downing it. “If that doesn’t work there are always other ways.”

The taller man backhanded his inebriated partner in the chest, signaling him to hush as another wrestler walked up to the bar to get a drink. Taking a swig of his beer he smiled and told Trevor, “Just leave it to me.”

Super Crazy took a shot of his tequila and watched the pair move away from the bar. Those two were up to something again. He just hoped it didn’t turn out as badly as the last time. They could color it any way they liked. They may call him crazy but he knew the country duo was the reason that last diva spent 2 months in the hospital.

It was supposed to have been a simple bump and had it been executed as planned would have given Michelle a plausible excuse for being out of action.  Instead they had plowed through her making what should have been a minor injury a serious threat to her health.  When questioned the country duo had maintained that they had miscalculated the force needed to accomplish the spot.  Since no one could prove beyond a doubt that the pair hadn't made an honest mistake they had been able to keep their jobs but there were still rumblings about them.

The luchadore shook his head as he watched Cade and Murdoch disappear into the crowd.  He didn't know what the duo wanted but he'd make damn sure they didn't get it, whatever it was.  His gaze turned to the young women being entertained by the younger Hardy.  Deciding that the best offense was a good defense he figured he'd go over and introduce himself.  After all, he couldn't help if the young ladies didn't even know who he was.

Rose shook her head laughing as Jeff and Solie traded quips about some of the divas. Apparently the young man didn’t have much more respect for the non-wrestling eye candy than they did. It was good to know there were men besides their fathers who didn’t always think with the wrong part of their bodies. It gave her faith she might actually be able to find a mate that wouldn’t either drive her crazy or leave her with a broken heart like Peter had. Shaking out of that thought before it could grab hold she looked up to see a Latino man with black curly hair approaching them.

She smiled as she recognized the high flying superstar.  Sticking out a hand she offered, “Hi I’m Rose,”

”I’m Super Crazy,” he grinned at the tall strawberry blonde.

“Is that a personal statement or did your mom name you that,” she asked.

He laughed and told her, “Well actually my mother named me Francisco but nobody calls me that around here.”

The green eyed girl nodded. “Fair enough, people call me Ro. So do I call you Super or Crazy,” she asked with a twinkle in her eye.

The luchadore grinned at the young woman. “It depends on the context,” then shrugged and added, “Really I’ll answer to either. You can even call me Cisco if you prefer. It’s what my sisters back home call me. You’re new around here aren’t you?”

She nodded, “Yeah sort of. We have family in the company but we just joined the tour. I’m doing security and my cousin is writing a bit.” Blushing she added, “Oh sorry. This is my cousin Solie.”

The platinum blonde turned from Jeff at the mention of her name, grinning as she recognized the star in front of her.

“It's a pleasure to meet you,” she said extending her hand.  “I couldn't by any chance coerce you into doing an interview with me, could I?”

Super Crazy laughed as he shook the young woman's hand.  He had to admit that he could definitely see why some of the guys were already making their interest in the pair known.  They were a delightfully pleasant breath of fresh air.

“Lee,” Rose groaned.  “Couldn't you have at least waited until after the introductions had been done?”

Solie frowned momentarily before smiling again brightly.  “I could have but then I would go off on a tangent and forget I wanted to ask that to begin with.  Besides how long, really, should I wait to ask for an interview?  And let's not forget that Steph promised me that she would find room for an article if I managed to get something put together,” she answered.

“Chicken,” Ro muttered earning a furious blush from her cousin and a confused look from both men.  “Lee's father got her this shirt for Christmas it says, 'They say I have ADD but they just don't understand!  Ooh look a chicken!'  So chicken has become our code word for when she's gone off topic again.

The guys chuckled a little, both at the explanation and the platinum blonde's discomfort.

Solie's eyes narrowed on the redhead.  “And you do realize that I'm going to kill you later, right,” she asked sweetly.

“Whatever,” her cousin returned waving off the threat.  “If I had a penny for every time you said that I'd be a very rich woman.”

The luchadore smiled at the obvious closeness of the pair. It would serve them well in days to come. “I’m sure we can work out a time for an interview sometime soon…. Provided you agree to help maintain my cover as the crazy Mexican.” He winked explaining, “It gets me out of more situations than you would guess around here with the gringos.”

Jeff laughed at that, “Yeah but a few of us know how smart and urbane you really are. Though I do admit I love it when you pull the “No speak English” bit on JBL.” Turning to the girls he added, “Drives the Texan nuts. He never knows what to make of it.”

The Latino man grinned at that. “JBL is too easy to rattle sometimes.”  Pulling out his wallet he handed Solie a business card. “That’s got my cell on it. Call it when you want to set up the interview. You can copy the number for Rose here too. If you two ever need any help dealing with the crew, give me a holler.”

Rose smiled, “Thanks that’s really nice of you though hopefully we won’t need too much help.”

The multi-color haired man by Solie’s side grinned teasing, “Yeah what do you think… all the guys are going to descend on them like a pack of wolves and they’re going to need rescuing or something?”

The Luchadore smiled cryptically. “You never know, especially with two such lovely charming Senoritas... Anyway wolves have been given a bad rap. You should know that Jeff.” He winked at the trio.

Lee leaned back to look up at Jeff.  “Do I even want to know what that was in reference to,” she asked as the other man disappeared into the crowded room.

The youngest Hardy tried for a blank face, only partially succeeding.  “I plead the fifth,” he deadpanned.

Rose laughed.  “You do realize that you have now given us sufficient fodder to go searching for whatever it is your hiding right?”

The young man paled slightly before color rushed to his face.  “You wouldn't really do that would you,” he asked a bit apprehensively.

“Only if you promise that it won't come up to bite any of us on the ass,” Solie assured him patting his arm affectionately.

“Well I can say with complete honesty that it won't be a problem for either of you, as for myself,” he sighed running a hand through his multicolored tresses.  “That's another story entirely.”

“What's another story,” Matt asked joining the trio only mildly surprised by the intimacy shown by his brother and the new girl.

“You don't want to know,” Jeff said before either of the girls could jump in.

He looked from his brother's blank face to the amused faces of the young women before shrugging.  “O-kay then.  I just wanted to make sure that you hadn't ducked out and left me holding the bag, as it were.”

Jeff smiled at his older brother, “Would I do that to you… Don’t answer that Matty. I’m trying to make a good impression here.”

The girls both laughed at that causing the older man to wonder exactly what his brother had been telling them.  Shaking his head he told the trio, “It looks like the party is winding down. If you don’t want to get stuck on the clean up crew, you might want to start moving toward the exits.” He winked and headed off himself.

Rose watched the dark haired young man leave. “Is he always like that?”

The remaining Hardy sighed beside her, “Only when he’s worried about something. I’ll corner him later and find out what’s up. In the mean time, I will be sure to let you two know when we plan the next run.”

“Run, what are we running from now,” the Heartbreak kid asked rejoining the trio.

“You but you keep finding us Shawn.” Rose teased though her voice warbled a bit on her former crush’s name.

“That I would never believe of you Rose Elizabeth,” the older man winked. “But speaking of avoiding situations…. A little birdy told me the dynamic duo was headed this way looking for you two… if you don’t want an audience you might want to cut them off.”

“What a way to kill the mood,” Solie groaned letting her head fall forward.

Shawn held his hands out defensively.  “Just don't shoot the messenger all right?”

“We would never do that to you...to some others without a doubt,” she muttered glaring across the room at the back of Randy's head.  Turning to Jeff Rose offered him a sincere smile.  “It really was a pleasure to meet you.  Maybe next we can do it without the unnecessary drama.”  She gave him a brief one arm hug.  “Thanks for the heads up. The last thing we need is for the parental units to get wind of what really happened tonight,” she said kissing Shawn's cheek.

Solie slipped out of Jeff's loose embrace to wrap her arms around the show stopper.  “Thanks, for everything,” she whispered tightening her arms a bit.

“Not a problem Shortcake,” he assured her squeezing her gently.  “We did have a good time,” he said his gaze dropping to her arm.  “For the most part.”

Noticing the direction of his eyes she shrugged.  “Still had fun,” Lee said brightly.  She turned back to Jeff then throwing her arms around his neck as she smiled up at him.  “Thanks for the save, both times,” she told him sincerely.  Impulsively she leaned up on her tiptoes placing a kiss upon his lips before spinning out of his arms and sailing out of the room with her cousin.

Shawn watched the girls leave with a faintly amused expression on his face.  Finally he turned to the other man.  “You had better be very careful where those two are concerned,” he said at last.  “They have more than just their fathers' looking out for them.  I'd hate to see something happen to you because you were just lookin' to scratch an itch, if you catch my drift.”

The younger Hardy was instantly insulted by the older man's words.  “With all due respect,” he ground out.  “I really don't know how you came to the conclusion that there is anything other than some mutual flirtation going on here.  I just met her,” Jeff drawled angrily his hand gesturing to the door the girls had exited.  “And I don't know about you but I am not about to jump into bed with someone I just met.”

Michaels smiled at the young man clapping him on the back.  “Just what I wanted to hear son...just what I wanted to hear.”

Jeff shook his head rubbing his forehead wearily.  “You mean that it was some kind of test?”

“Something like that,” Shawn admitted not at all repentant about the fact that he had been baiting the other man.  Seeing that most of the crowd had left he used the hand on Jeff's shoulder to lead him out of the room.  “Think of it this way, better me than either one of their dads coming at you.”
