ANNOUNCEMENTS: January 20, 2009: Welcome to the COMMUNITY RESOURCES IN CORRECTIONS web site for Texas A&M students. Access this site regularly to receive important information, announcements about class schedules, assignments, quizzes, etc. Email me at Steve Mardock if you have any questions. Here is a link for the PSI Sentencing Exercise that we will begin next week: Texas Statutes January 30, 2009: Tuesday I will be covering chapter 3 and you should be ready to conduct the PSI interview. The Pre-sentence investigation will be discussed and turned in the following week. February 1, 2009: I have added the group assignment list and the memo that I handed out on the the agenda for the next couple of classes. February 4, 2009: Quizzes 1 and 2 are not posted. You will need to print them out, answer them, and the bring them to class next Tuesday. Most of what you will need to answer the questions comes from the text and some from my lectures. The PSI needs to be written by next week and we will staff for recommendations in your groups. Read Chapter 4 for class on Tuesday. February 10, 2009: Quiz 3 is now ready and you will need to turn it in during class on 2/17. I have also provided a summary of the PSI Assignment due on Tuesday. February 18, 2009: Quiz 4 is now ready and you will need to turn it in during class on 2/24. Remember that any quiz turned in after the due date will have 2 points deducted for being late. You will need to read chapter 6 which covers the assessment and classfication. We will be conducting assessments in groups during class. See you then. February 25, 2009: There is no quiz due next week. We will continue the work on classification and you will learn about SCS or strategies for case classification. Group work will consist of conducting the SCS interview. Remember that if you are not in class on days we do group work, points will be deducted from your overall total. See you on Tuesday. March 5, 2009: I have added quiz 5 to the list. This needs to be turned in during class on 3/17. On that date, we will complete the SCS interviews and will score them. Have a great spring break! March 17, 2009: There is no quiz this week. We are running about a week behind so on your calendar everything scheduled for March 17 has been moved to next week. That includes reading chapters 8 and 9. Quiz 6 will be due on 3/31. Also next week, groups will meet briefly to work on their supervision plans. March 24, 2009: Quiz 6 is now ready to print and is due in class on March 31. You will need to also have read chapters 7 and 10. The supervision plan excercise is due next class period. The format for the plan can be found on the website. The juvenile detention tour will held on April 28. Everyone needs to sign a release for that trip and that will be done in class on the 21st. April 2, 2009: There will be no quiz for this week. You need to read chapters 7 and 10 for the next class. This will cover probation revocation and modification. There will be one more group exercise following the lecture that involves violation and the conditions of probation. See you on Tuesday. April 8, 2009: Quiz 7 is not ready to take and it is due next class period. In the next class groups will present their recomendations on the violations of the conditions of probation. We will also begin the chapter on parole and re-entry so you should read chapters 11 and 12.I have also uploaded the revised calendar for the rest of the semester. You can find it by clicking on Syllabus. See you on Tuesday. April 17, 2009: Quiz 8 is now ready to take and is due next class period. On the 21st, I will be covering the juvenile probation system and I hope to be able to show the video on parole. You will also need to be in class to sign the release forms for the juvenile detention tour scheduled for the following week. April 22, 2009: Next week we will be meeting at the Juvenile Detention facility at 233 E. Mitchell at 5:30. For those who were not in class last night, you will need to stop by my office sometime before the tour and sign the paper work which is located in the bin of my office door (GE 237) PAC campus. There will be no class on May 4 as I need to attend the PAC graduation ceremony. I will not be holding a final as well. The last quiz will be the final and it will be due by May 10. You will need to send it to me in an email or drop it by my office. It will not be available until about the 29th or 30th. See you next week.
April 30, 2009: The final Quiz is now available. It needs to be completed by Friday, May 8. You should email the completed quiz to me as an attachment. There will be no class on Tuesday May 5th as I need to attend the PAC graduation.
