The Everglades are 120 miles long, 50 miles wide and approximately 2 feet deep. They are never more than 6 feet above sea level.
The Everglades and the Ten Thousand Islands is a rare and beautiful place. It is one of North America's unsung wild places - a beautiful, rugged, subtropical landscape.

The Miccosukees have always managed to retain their own culture. The Miccosukee way is best reflected in its yellow, red, black and white flag, colors which represent the circle of life; east, north, west and south. Miccosukees view the whole universe spinning slowly in a circle like the logs of their ceremonial fire. They have kept their language, medicine and clans.
Some Miccosukees prefer to live in chickees instead of modern housing.

Thank you, SHIRLEY, for showing us the Everglades. Do you want to share some of the driving with your grandson PAUL as we continue down the east coast of Florida?

Welcome to Fort Lauderdale, the "Venice of America." It is a city of islands held together by an intricate web of canals, rivers, bays and waterways hundreds of miles long.

Greater Fort Lauderdale is a place of contrasts, where modest beach hotels vie with elegant seaside resorts. A visitor can charter a deep-sea fishing boat, or maybe just hop a water taxi and see where you end up.
And for boaters, you can sail the Atlantic Ocean whenever the mood strikes.

Dock your vessel at any of our numerous boat clubs and yacht clubs. Steer your boat along the three-hundred miles of neatly paved canals to local restaurants or department stores with on-premise docks.

The possibilities are endless in Greater Fort Lauderdale, where twenty-three miles of beautiful beaches are only the beginning . . .

We can go from this fresh water pool right into the Atlantic Ocean for a refreshing swim!

PAUL & SHIRLEY can take a break while CAROL shows us the area just north of where she lives...........
Miami welcomes you!
For over one hundred years, Miami has been the Sunshine State's crown jewel. Even in its early years, Miami was known as "America's Sun Porch". Situated on the southeastern coast of Florida, Miami has much to offer. Bordered on the east by the Atlantic Ocean, and on the south by the world famous Florida Keys, Miami is an ideal vacation destination.

If you are inclined to sightsee, SoBe's Art Deco District contains over 800 buildings in this distinct architectural style, and Ocean Drive is known for its bustling activity and sidewalk cafs.
