Died
In Norwalk, Ohio, at the home of his son, Hiram Rose, on the 4th, inst. Alanson Rose age 86 years and 3 months. The deceased was born in Binghampton, NY June 2, 1789. When about 18 years old he commenced the study of medicine and shortly after his marriage began practice as a physician, which he continued for over thirty years. In the year 1811 he married Lusana Osborn and eleven children were born of this marriage, all of whom, with the exception of two who died in infancy, are still living. The eldest, wife of R.T. Miller is living in Fondulac, Wisconsin; the next younger Mrs. Edwin Gager, is a resident of Norwalk as are also Hiram and Augustus, the second and third sons; the eldest son George W. is a resident of Leraysville, Pa.; Alanson, Jr., the next son is living in Loraine County; the third daughter, widow of F.T. Brown also of Binghampton is living with a married daughter in Toledo; the youngest daughter, Mrs. Hurlburt is a resident of Fort Scott, Kansas; Edwin G. the youngest of the family, is living in Cleveland. In 1849 the deceased and wife with the two youngest children , came to Norwalk where he resided until his death. On November 28, 1864, his wife died at the age of 73 years and 2 months. For the past two years he has continually failed and on the last Saturday morning just as the sun dispelling the shadows of night, he sank peacefully to his rest. In all relations of life with his fellow men he was honest and upright, generous to a fault, feeling keenly to the wants and misfortunes of others, and doing all in his power to alleviate them. A kind and loving father, a steadfast friend, ripe in years he passed away leaving no memories behind save those of respect and love.
The funeral took place Sunday afternoon last from the resident of his son Hiram and was largely attended by friends of the family.
Died
Alanson Rose, Jr., one of the oldest resident of Norwalk, who had lived in this city for over sixty years, died Friday morning May 18th at 2 o'clock at his 49 Townsend Ave., after an ailment of several months which resulted in gangerene of the foot and which prevented him from leaving his home since last September; the last time he was uptown was when he was brought up in a hack on election day to vote.
Mr. Rose was one of the oldtime residents of Norwalk, being in business in the grocery and bakery tradeaway back in the 50's. He was born in Binghamton, NY June 25, 1838 coming to Norwalk when he was only seventeen years of age and has resided here ever since with the exception of a few yearswhen he lived in Kipton. He was a man of quiet demeanorand a person of domestic tastes, straight forward and honest in his dealings with men and respected by all who know him. Of late years he dealt considably in real estate and owned several places about the city and fixing them up in good condition and selling them again as opportunity
presented. He was one of quite a family brothers and sisters, being a brother of the late Hiram and A.H. Rose of this city and E.G. Rose of Cleveland, the latter was the last one of the family.
A former wife and one son died several years ago and are buried in Kipton, Mrs. Rose's former home. A second wife survives him, who has proven a devoted and faithful companion.
The time of the funeral has not yet been determined but burial will be in Kipton.
