Originally came from England, settled in Connecticut, some migrated to Broome County, Page Brook named after them.

Binghamton, NY
Isaac Page, Asa Page, Asa Page the 2nd and Jared Page came from Connecticut and settled in what is now Broome County during the latter part of the eighteenth century. They all were descendants of George Page who emigrated from England to Branford, Conn. in the early 1660’s.
The earliest records of these pioneers and their families after they left Conn. furnish but little information whereby the writer is able to present anything like a complete and truthful picture of their lives. We must be content to believe that they were good old Puritan stock and brought up to the idea that labor and religion should go hand in hand. There today evidences in the communities where they settled of their industry and frugality.
ISAAC PAGE
The first of these early settlers, Isaac Page, was a native of Branford, New Haven County, Conn. He was born June 29, 1748, a son of Samuel and Mary (Rose) Page. On August 8, 1770 he married Sarah Bradley of East Haven, Conn., a daughter of Caleb and Sarah (Russell) Bradley.
The date of his settlement in Broome County is not known but it appears from records of property conveyances in the towns of Branford and Cornwall that he did not leave Conn. before 1784. The last of these conveyances was made in that year by deed recorded in the office of the clerk of the town of Cornwall in Vol. 4 page 378. He is described in the deed as being a resident of Cornwall, Litchfield County.
According to the first cencus of the United States taken in 1790, Isaac Page was then a resident of Chemungtown, Montgomery County, New York. His family consisted of 3 white males the age of 16 years and upward and 2 free white males under the age of 16 and 1 free white female. Broome County was at the time part of Montgomery County and it’s inhabitants seem to have been reported with those of Chemung Town.
An examination of the records in the genealogy department of the Connecticut State Library at Hartford, Conn. and in the clerk’s office of the town of Branford revealed no information relative to the children of Isaac Page. Neither does his will which was recorded in Broome County Surrogate’s Office December 31, 1817. Rhoda Chappell is the only distributee named in the will and her relationship, if any, is not given.
From records of conveyances in the clerk’s office of Broome County it appears that the name of one of the sons of Isaac Page was Isaac. Isaac Page and Isaac Page, Jr. are named as granters in a deed dated Mar.5,1800, and recorded in Book B page 253. The property conveyed is described as containing 102 acres and 32 rods of land, and is located about a mile below Whitney Point . The names of other sons were probably Samuel and William. A deed from Samuel Page , described as being of Scioto County, Ohio to William Page , dated July 16, 1813, and recorded in the Broome County clerk’s office conveyed a one half interest in property in the town of Fenton “deeded by John Rutherford to me and William Page”. Neither Samuel nor William was a member of any other Page family known to have been in this locality at the time.
ISAAC PAGE, JR.
The date of the settlement of Isaac Page, Jr. in Broome County is also unknown. It is quite safe , however, to infer that he came with his father . The records in Broome County clerk’s office disclose he owned properties in the towns of Fenton and Chenango. He moved to Coventry, Chenango County in 1832 and in 1835 took up his house in Bennington, Morrow County, Ohio, then part Delaware County, Ohio where he passed the remainder of his life. He died July 1842 at the age of 68 years and was buried in Fargo Cemetery near Marengo.
Isaac Page, Jr. was twice married. His first wife was Betsey (or Irena) Page, believed to be the daughter of Asa and Eunice Page. After her death he married Polly Bennett who survived him. Children by his first wife was Tyrus, John, Betsey, Isaac, Harmon and Alva, and by his second wife Lewis, Samuel B., Charles W., William e., Irena, James H. and Solon. Tyrus his eldest son was born March 20, 1794 and died August 20 1881. He was buried in Glen Castle Cemetery, Town of Chenango, Broome County.
Isaac Page, jr. was an industrious and properous farmer and an ardent and faithful Methodist. He set, for those who knew him, a stalwart example of deep Christian life which expressed itself in a galant service to Christ in the Church and in his home community.
Beginning in 1816 Methodist services were for a time ministered in Broome Coutny by circuit preachers. It is stated in Chaffee’s History of Wyoming Conference that the first of these services were conducted “at Isaac Page’s five miles above Chenango Point”. He was chosen in 1819 as one of the trustees of the First Methodist Church in the towns of Union and Chenango. In 1821 the name was changed to the First Society of the Methodist Episcopal Church in Binghamton and he was elected a member of the new board of trustees. In 1923 the body was rechristened the Society of the Methodist Church in Binghamton and he again was chosen as one of the trustees.
ASA PAGE
Asa Page, a native of Wallingford, New Haven County, Conn. came to Broome County about 1792 and settled in the vicinity of Whitney Point. He was born December 21, 1735, son of Timothy and Thankful (Doolittle) Page. On May 7, 1759 he married Eunice Page of Branford , a sister of Isaac Page. Their children were Solomon, Calvin and Luther, each of whom died at an early age, Asa 2nd. born at Branford August 15, 1761 and who married Hannah L. Faulkner born at Lithcfield in 1773, John who married Rachel Perrin, Polly who married Peter Wright, and Eunice who was born at Branford Oct.2, 1764. It is presumed there was another daughter Betsey (or Irena) who married Isaac Page, Jr.
At the time of the first cencus was taken in 1790, Asa Page resided in Litchfield, Conn. His family consited of 3 free white males under the age of 16 and 3 free white females . Asa Page 2nd. was also listed with the inhabitants of Litchfield. He had in his family, 1 free white male under 16 years and 3 free white females .
From the records of conveyances of real property it appears that Asa Page resided in Branford for about ten years after marriage and then moved to the town of Litchfield. The last conveyance made by him before he left Conn. was made to his son Asa Page 2nd. in 1788
ASA PAGE 2nd. and JOHN PAGE
Asa Page 2nd. and John Page came from Connecticut to Broome County with their father. The children of Asa 2nd. and Hannah (Faulkner) Page were Rufus, Lewis, Sherman, Lucy, anna and Clara. Rufus, the eldest son was born 1788. The children of John and Rachel (Perrin) Page were Laura, Sally, Solomon, Irena, Calvin, Elmira, Luther, Rhoda, Asa, Lavina and John Orin, all of whom reached maturity. The five sons settled near their father and together owned nearly a thousand acres of land.
Page Brook, which empties into the Otselic River about a mile above Whitney Point, took it’s name from some of the Page families mentioned who settled in early days along it’s banks.
JARED PAGE
Jared Page, also a native of Wallingford settled in the town of Fenton about 1794. He was born Jan.19, 1756, a son of Timothy and Johanna (Merwin) page . he served in Captain Bunnell’s Company of Wallingford which was raised in June 1776 to reinforce Washington’s Army at New York.
On Nov.26, 1778, Jared Page married Lydia Bristol. Their children were Sherman born May 9, 1778, Betsey born Dec.14, 1780, Jared born Oct.29,1782, Luman born Sept.18, 1784, Nancy born Sept.18, 1786, Rufus and Ransom twins born Mar.8, 1789, Charlotte born Mar.9, 1798 and Julius born 1799. Other children were Henry Marcus and William a. A child of Jared was buried Jan.17,1794.
According to the first Federal cencus, Jared Page was then a resident of Cheshire, a town adjoining Wallingford and his family consisted of 1 free white male 16 years and upward and 5 free white males under age 16 and 3 free white females.
Sherman Page began his career as a lawyer. He took up the practice of his profession in Unadilla, Otsego County, became a Judge and served two terms as a member of Congress. Henry Page was also a lawyer. He located in Laurens, Otsego County. Julius became a merchant in Binghamton and was chosen treasurer of the village at the first meeting of the trustees after it’s incorporation in 1834. Jared Page, Jr. married Polly Sprague, daughter of Silas and Mary (or Polly) (Leonard) Sprague, and moved to a farm he purchased which was located on Page Brook in the town of Greene, Chenango County where he died July 31, 1870. Rufus Page married Nancy Eggleston and moved to a farm he purchased in the town of Triangle, Broome County, where he died in 1851. Marcus Page moved to Chenango Forks, Broome County where he took up the machinist trade. Nancy Page married a Theyer who was a cabinet maker at Cooperstown, Otsego County , and William A. Page moved to Battle Creek, Michigan, but little information is available concerning the other children of Jared and Lydia (Bristol) Page.
Page Brook, which flows south-westerly across the central part of the town of Fenton and into the Chenango River, took it’s name from Isaac and Jared Page.
Samuel the father of Isaac page, and Timothy , the father of Asa Page were sons of Samuel and Mindwell Page, and both were born at Branford, Conn.. Timothy, father of Jared Page was a son of Timothy and Thankful (Doolittle) Page.
While much more could be said regarding the families mentioned if data could be obtained, it is hoped that the information here contained will prove helpful to future generations who may be interested in tracing their ancestry.
