William McClure was born 1725/6 at Chester, New Hampshire, the son of James and Jean (Andrews) McClure and died Jan. 26, 1827 at McClure’s Settlement, Sanford, NY. He married first Feb.26, 1791 at Goshen, Orange County, NY to Sarah Farnham born Jan.13, 1769 at Coventry, Conn., the daughter of Capt. Eliab and Abigail (Killam) Farnham of Shawangunk, Orange County, NY. She died presumedly in childbirth March 10, 1807 at McClure’s Settlement. He married second to Lydia Austin, a native of Suffield, Conn.. There were no issue of this second marriage. The name is spelled MacClure on the early records and McClure on the later ones. About 1777 the family moved to Deer Park in Orange County, NY. He was a teacher in Orange County before taking up surveying. Moved to what is now Broome County in 1787. They are both buried in McCLure Cemetery, Sanford, Broome County, NY

Second Generation
William Esquire McClure born Dec. 1791 at Oquaga, Town of Windsor, Broome County, NY, the son of William and Sarah (Farnham) McClure. He married Mary Allen, born about 1788 in Conn. They resided in Deposit, NY where he was Town Supervisor for many years. He was a suveyor like his father, by profession. He died Mar.2, 1874 age she died Oct.12, 1869. They are buried in the cemetery on Fourth Street in Deposit, NY.

David McClure born March 1793 at Oquaga, Town of Windsor, Broome County, NY, the son of William and Sarah (Farnham) Mcclure. He married in 1812 at Windsor, NY to Hannah Springsteen, born Oct,16, 1790 at Windsor, perhaps the daughter of John and Deanna (Rector) Springsteen. They had ten children of whom two died young. One is listed below, but the other is not known. They are buried in McClure Cemetery in Sanford, NY.

Thomas McClure b. 1802 at Oquaga, Town of Windsor, Broome County, NY s/o William and Sarah (Farnham) McClure. He married Lurana Jennings b. 1813 Delaware County, NY, She married second in 1857 to Silas Seward. He died between 1855 and 1857.

Fanny McClure born at Oquaga, Town of Windsor, Broome County, NY d/o William and Sarah (Farnham) McClure. She married Charles Hewitt, Jr. b. 1801 s/o Charles and Susanna Hewitt. He was the first postmaster of McClure. She died before 1850 and he presumedly married second to Maryanne_______ b. 1820 in NY. In 1856 he was a widower and married twice, a shoemaker by trade. His father Charles b. about 1785 Albany County, NY was also living in the household 1865 cencus as a widower.

In the second petition, he was listed as a resident of Illinois and the third petition as living in Keytesville, Chariton County, Missouri.
