The following information on the family of Tompkins Jefferson Guernsey was graciously donated by Mary Alice Guernsey Valdez [email protected]

NEW Tompkins Jefferson Guernsey died in Laredo, Texas on September 6, 1921 and is buried in the City Cemetary in Laredo, Texas. He was a successful businessman, owned the "Exchange Hotel" at 2016 Farragut St and also ran a delivery service picking up cargo at the railroad depot, a block west of the hotel, and delivering to other business. At age 18 he joined the "Scott's 900" NY Cavalry 11th regiment Company C.

Tompkins Jefferson Guernsey also worked for the railroad in Laredo, Webb County, TX married Kate Kelly, b. in Lansing, Michigan on July 2, 1881, d/o Patrick J. Kelly and Annie Hanrahan, Kate died on January 15, 1938. Tompkins and Kate had 10 children all born at 2016 Farragut St. in Laredo, Webb County, TX. Birthdates taken from the family bible.

After Tompkins died in 1921, Kate remarried John J. Dowling, b. 1872, d. 1933. They are all buried in the family plot of the City Cemetery in Laredo, Webb County, Texas.

Jane (Nichols) Guernsey buried on the Nichols Plot, possible daughter of George and Mary Nichols.

Jane Nichols married 1843 John Lee Guernsey of Saratoga County, NY she died Pheonix, NY, had 2 children born in Lisle.
