6 MGB V8 1974
Up until recently, this MGB V8 was the fastest car in the
series by a considerable margin. Harley Norager thrilled the crowds at Manfeild by
attracting a "stop/go" penalty for going faster than our series rules allow - in
both series races.
Having been black-flagged, he scorched out of the
pits to resume his battles with the rest of the field. As he had started from the
back of the grid anyway and at least a minute behind the first car away, this mean't
overtaking some cars for a second time. Unfortunately, we haven't seen him out in
the 1999/2000 season as there are now three or four other cars capable of breaking the
speed bar and it would be good to see them all racing reach other yet trying to stay slow
enough!

BACKGROUND
& HISTORY |
| Category 2 - MGB V8 This is an original factory MGB V8 rather than a home brewed copy. With the
3500cc Rover V8 under the bonnet carrying no more weight than the 1800cc BMC B series
engine, the power to weight ratio is improved drastically and the balance isn't upset at
all.
A very quick car now which has been progressively developed since
1990. |
| A crowd favourite as he always has to start
at the back of the grid but can subject himself to a 'stop go' penalty if he breaks the
speed bar - which he can do quite easily. As one of the the fastest cars, our
structure is designed to make it difficult, though not impossible, for him to win the
series. Our published philosophy allows us to admit Harley and other quick cars,
provided they are sporting and accept that they do not have a divine right to win...
Unusual, but it works well. |
