DRIVER Murray Baber

CAR & CATEGORY

Category 2 - MGB V8 Ray Green

This is an original factory MGB V8 rather than a home brewed copy. With the 3500cc Rover V8 under the bonnet carrying no more weight than the 1800cc BMC B series engine, the power to weight ratio is improved drastically and the balance isn't upset at all.

This car (with a bit of assistance from Murray) won the "Gasoline Alley series for Traditional British Sportscars" in the 1995/96 season.

The car is maintained by Mal Clark of By-Gone Autos and has had a lot of work carried out on it over the last two or three years.

WHERE BORN

Lower Hutt - Wellington NZ. Now living on Auckland's North Shore.

OCCUPATION

Coach... (of what we are not too sure...)

ENTRANT/SPONSOR

MURRAY BABER

YEAR'S IN ACTIVE MOTORSPORT - 8

The last 6 years with this car. Murray is getting to be one of the quickest in the series and may soon have to ease off a bit to avoid breaking the speed bar! He'll be able to keep Harley Norager (also in a white B V8) in his sights as they power their way through from the back of the field - which is where they'll be starting from.

Murray had requested permanent number "107" but Clive Taylor did too - the first clashing request for numbers. This year as Murray was first - he gets it.

INTERESTS OTHER THAN RACING (if any...)

Wine, golf, music & reading.

ALL TIME FAVOURITE RACING CAR/DRIVER

Bruce McLaren

WAFFLE

With two MGB V8s, Derek Prior and Paul Forsyth in quick MGB Sports, the series is shaping up to be very exciting and the Triumph boys will be keen to get stuck in too.

Taken just after the rebuild with the original wheels
