Car Of The Month

The idea of this is that I'll get all you Marcos owners and enthusiasts to send me photos of your cars or Marcos related vehicles that you've spotted in your travels.

Two cars of the Month (or every other month) is becoming a habit I must break, but at least you're not being short changed, it's still 12 cars a year!

Car Of The Month - Get The Image!

First Car of the Month is Christian Fey's car, snapped on the Le Mans Tour 2003, by Claus Geitner.

Chrisitan writes :

The car was originally coloured in dark silver grey metallic and the first MARCOS with a Rover V8 injection engine. First Owner was Jem Marsh. The car is on the sales brochure for the 25th anniversary.

Next month I will start a complete restauration of the car. The chassis has heavy rust problems and will be rebuild from Nicco Baas. In the menatime I will repaint the car in the original colour and do some work on the engine, renew clutch and overhaul the gearbox. If everything works, first "roll out" will be the "Le Mans Tour 2004".

Car Of The Month - Get The Image!

Second Car of the Month is Andr Kronander 3 litre Volvo.

Andr, from Gothenburg in Sweden, writes : Colin Feyerabend helped me buy the car in 1975, when it was yellow

It was the first Marcos that was built with the Volvo 3 litre engine. The English reg no was SWV555J and the car was tested in Motor December 19,1970, Motorbrief test no 54/70 and in Autocar 15 april 1971.

The chassis no is 5781.

It is a Marcos 3 liter Volvo that is tuned to about 260bhp. The crankshaft is stroked to 88 mm that gives 3,3 liter and I have three double 48 mm Delortos, and faster camshaft and bigger valves..... (In the middle at the eightes I had 93mm pistons in the motor too - that gave 3.6 liter and a lot of power in two years, but then I had problems with the cylinder head gasket.

I have also put an overdrive from Volvo 164 to the car that is reinforced with roller bearings.

In front I put a Vitesse anti-rollbar and at the rear a Watts-link. The front wheels have got ventilated disk from Peugeot 306i (They are 20,5 x 266 mm and suits very well) and Wilwood 4pot calipers. Weight is 1.7 kg instead of std 3.5 kg. Avon adjustble shock absorbers. I have also 15x7" Minilightweels.

The safetybelt comes from a WV Passat -98 and are "powder-operated" - Recomended from Autoliv development department. (I think that means they are explosive tensioned - MS?).

I put in a wooden dashboard and a leather interior.

If you want to see your car here or have any photos of Marcos (or related cars) send them to me.

The March Car of the Month was Paul Plowman's recent acquisition. This 3 litre V6 is, probably, unique in that it has a stainless steel chassis, courtesy of a previous owner whose career was welding stainless steel.
The April Car of the Month was actually 4 US domiciled cars. Pictured for a British Car Magazine shoot (Magazine out on May 14, my birthday!), the cars are Mike Denman's (red, 1966 Marcos 1800), Mark Petrinovich's (yellow with maroon accents, 1971 Volvo 3 litre), Stephan Spalding's (all yellow, 1971 2.5 Triumph 6 cylinder) and Don Lattimer's (blue, 1971 3 liter Ford Essex V6).

2001's last CoM was Mike Williamson's Mantula - Lovely photo of a great looking car.

2000

2000's first Car Of The Month is this fantasy shot actually from Dan Schaal from Luxembourg (not Juan Pedro Adrados, he's got some shots on my sportscar racing page!). He says he'd like to see this scene, of 3 LM600s leading a FIA GT race. Wouldn't we all! Who knows, maybe 2000 will be the year. Clever shot!
