Modus Operandi

Organizers:

1.    Project Somanassa is a long-term developmental project hosted under the auspices of the Medical Alliance.

2.    As the proposed society may not be registered in time, the June trip will have to be organized by the Singapore Burmese Buddhist Temple.

3.    However, we will publicize the project as organized by the intended organizer after the Society has been officially registered.

4.    It must be strongly emphasized that we are only working with a Buddhist-based organization and not for, or under them.

Founding Principles:

1.    We believe that all humanitarian work or medical relief operations should be conducted solely with the aim of alleviation of human suffering and provision of bare living essentials such as food, drugs, equipments and medical services to the needy population with no other secondary intention or vested interests whatsoever be it political, religious or commercial.

2.    The Medical Alliance is founded solely on these principles. We are a non-profit, non-religious and non-political organization dedicated to the increasing awareness and enhancing understanding of the problems faced in terms of health service provision and delivery to vulnerable populations such as the poor, the displaced and the destitute.

3.    While maintaining our neutrality and independence, we are also willing to work with any political, religious or commercial institutions or other affiliations, knowing our own limitations, the need to involve other sectors of society in humanitarian work and the benefits of a bi-directional partnership to facilitate our operations in areas where we do not have a presence.

4.    The healthcare problems of the developing world is seldom due to a medical cause and most of time, it stems from first political, then economic and social causes. Realizing this, we seek to work in other fields other than medical in order to enhance the desired results of our projects and therefore we require our members to have a more in-depth knowledge and understanding of the political, economic and social settings of the countries they are working in.

5.    A set of operating guidelines shall be instituted to govern the management and operation of all future projects.

Operation guidelines to cover the following aspects:

1.    Budget allocation for each project.

2.    Funding for reconnaissance trips and special missions.

4.    Code of ethics and conduct.

5.    Fund-raising and exhibition.

6.    Liaisons and partnerships with external organizations.
