Rocket Launch Notes
What Big Betty Rocket When August 13, 2002 Where Civic Center Weather Clear, sunny skies, almost no wind, temp 87, 11:07 AM Engine B6-4 Status Great Flight and Recovery Other First Flight Photo None Notes Marielayna and I flew this rocket. It was Big Betty's First Flight and Marielayna's too. It was the first flight of the day. A good time was had by all.
We chose to angle the launcher very slightly into the wind. Marielayna started the video going and I gave a fast countdown. She pressed the launch button. The first time, the launch controller had old batteries and did not work. A second controller was put into service and it worked on the first try. The rocket took off fine and flew nearly to about 250 feet. The bright white and orange paint job was easy to see. The chute opened perfectly and the fishing swivel kept the shroudlines from becoming tangled. The recovery was about 40 feet from the launch site.
This was the first flight of the day and was an exciting one for both of us.
