Objective: GRAPHIC DESIGNER where there is a need for a technically proficient, yet artistically inclined, creative person who is well-versed in most popular graphic software on multiple platforms with printing and web publishing experience.
RECENT EXPERIENCE: As a freelance computer graphics designer, work from home studio on several customized Macintosh computers on a broad range of projects. A long-standing interest in computer graphics going back to the days of black & white eventually led to involvement in projects for local business owners, grass-roots organizations and musical groups. One long - term project involved making pin - back buttons. In addition to hundreds of button designs, created handbills, posters, newspaper ads, and tee shirts. Personal projects include 3D rendering and animation. Most recently, designed a 2-panel CD insert (2004 - )
o Used digital templates to design pin-back buttons in several sizes within strict tolerances.
o Worked closely with printers to achieve faithful color reproduction.
o Made creative modifications to rectangular supplied artwork to conform to round templates.
o Designed and output color separations for silk screen printer to use in making tee shirts.
PUBLISHING EXPERIENCE: Worked for 16 months as office administrator for Hudson Map Company. Duties included Invoicing, bookeeping, answering multiple phone lines and waiting on retail customers as well as creative tasks like maintaining online and print catalogs, maintaining company website, designing graphics for same, and producing spiral bound booklets. (2004-2005) Some software skills (on multiple platforms) brought to the job included:
o QuickBooks used to balance wholesale accounts.
o Quark Xpress, Illustrator, and InDesign to update print and PDF catalogs.
o DreamWeaver, PhotoShop and Flash to maintain web site.
SOFTWARE: Have used freeware, shareware and demo software too numerous to mention here. Commercial titles and languages that I have developed considerable proficiency with are:
o Creative: PhotoShop, Illustrator, Poser, StrataVision 3D
o Page Layout: PageMaker, Quark Xpress, InDesign
o Web Design: DreamWeaver, Flash, HTML, CSS
o Business: Microsoft Office Suite, QuickBooks, FileMaker Pro
o MS Windows user for 12 years with systems through Win 2k,
o Macintosh user for 15 years with systems through OS X (Panther)
PRINTING EXPERIENCE: Worked as in-house print room operator for Xerox Business Services at a lage manufacturer's plant to print high volume of critical reports within strict deadlines.
o Responsible for running a Xerox 4135 high-speed laser printer, among others
o Monitor print server: SUN Sparc20 computer running Solaris (Unix) job manager
o Impact printing and processing of multi-page carbon forms
o Sorting, collating, shrinkwrapping, and distribution of forms and reports (1997-1999)
OTHER FACTS: Began taking art classes as electives in high school with photography, drawing, and painting. Attended West Liberty State College in West Virginia for two years with major in art and minor in zoology. Avid cyclist and rock collector. Constantly upgrading skills and eager to learn new ones. Believe that work is not just a way to make a living, but a way to make a life.
