Nizhnevartovsk located in West Siberia, Russia. The city's area is 270 square kilometers. Population of Nizhnevartovsk is 243,000 people, from which 111 thousand are work at 7482 companies and organizations. Click on the picture to enlarge. History started at 1909, when at the Ob' river appeared a haven made from wood sticks. Three years later 11 people settled and built five houses. They choped lumber, were hanted and fishing. January 1924 was founded Nizhnevartovskiy Selskiy Sovet - common union for countryside during the Soviet times. By 1940 population was 500. September 29, 1964 "Selo"(small village) was reformed to Working "Poselok." March 9, 1972 it received a city status and became an administrative center.However, the real growth and development of the city started after it was discovered one of the biggest oil field in Soviet Union. May 29, 1965 exploration well gave the first oil. "Samotlor" became the word that many people were saying in many languages. Later, in May 1965 city started to grow rapidly. In 1966 appeared the first building company - "Megiongazstroy." Samotlor as a biggest pearl of the oil region necklace is framed by tens of smaller by reserves underground storerooms, but with relatively high resource potential in general. In the city currently working two oil development branches of Tyumen Oil Company. In the city there is a natural gas refinery plant. City has its air gates - airport. It serves tens of planes each day from many different places. The airport became the eight by count with capabilities to land big airbusses. Nizhnevartovsk' river port experinced many changes since beggining of the century. Now it is the big undustrial organization. You can find many different types of ships going to different locations on the river. January 6, 1980 the first train arrived at the city. Today, Nizhnevartovsk is the biggest in its region end point station. At the end of January, 1993 to the united energy system of Russia Nizhnevartovsk Hydraulic Electrical Power Station was added. It has the power of 800 Mw.
Oil city became the place for more than 6 thousand organizations, kommercial firms, banks, insurance and trading agencies. There are 37 schools (in Russia elementary, middle and high school are linked together). It has Medical College, Teacher Training College, and a general tech faculty of Tyumen Industrial Institute. In the city there are 17 newspapers published such as "Varta", "Novosty Priobia","Iarmarka-Nizhnevartovsk", "Neftianik" "Samotlor-Express" and others. There are 4 TV companies - "Sfera", "TRK Samotlor", "Ugra";two popular FM radio stations which has broadcasting combined from Moscow and the city itself ("Evropa+" and "Nastalgie"). City Has two theaters - state mappet theater "Barabashka" and theater for kids "Skvorechnik". Also city has academy of music "Russkoe Peredvizhnichestvo", concerts at which has composers, art people and artists with the world name. On the left picture you can see "Service Center." This is an unique place in the city where people can go for shopping as to regular mall, however, the place includes many other convinient stores and offices. There are some banks inside, as well as travel agency, food store, food court, gym and fitness center. It was built in 1997 by Nizhnevartovsk Nefte Gaz (NNG) and now is a place where citizens like to visit because of convinience and good location.
On the right is NNG - the head organization of the city. History of Nizhnevartovsk Nefte Gas started when it was Soviet Uniuon. (On this older picture there is a slogan on top of it - "Oil in Gaz to Motherland" which reminds me old soviet times) During reforms in 90's organization became the part of Tyumen Oil Company. TNK made some changes in the structure of organization and now there are two organizations. JSC "Samotlorneftegaz" which developing Samotlor oil field and JSC "NGDP" which does the other smaller ones. Click on the picture to enlarge.
"Aliesha" is well-known sculpture in the city. It was built in July 1978 by the 50th universary of Nizhnevartovsk area. The place where it located had been choosen not by a chance - on the crossroads of the highways, there is a figure of strong young worker with a torch in his hand. One road goes to Samotlor oil field. People invite visitors to this place, that is also the famous place for just married couples to visit, put some flowers and make a pictures.
