| Brief overview of Folken: Folken is the Strategos for the Zaibach empire. He is Dornkirk's right hand man. Folken is extremely charismatic and others in the employment of Dornkirk hate him. During the course of the series he tries to persuade Van to join him in Dornkirk's cause. Van of course is disgusted by the idea and wants to kill Folken. Mostly because Folken ordered Dilandau to attack their homeland of Fanelia. Folken, is also Van's older brother. He vanished ten years ago, after he failed to slay the land dragon as part of a coronation ceremony. He failed because the dragon ripped off poor Folkens arm. This left Folken to believe he was going to die. But he didn't. Dornkirk saved him, and gave him a cybernetic arm. This is when he joins Dornkirk's quest to change Gaea. But the method to achieve this change has little regard for life, and when Folken realizes this he decides to join his brother Van to stop Dornkirk. What the Webmistress thinks: Folken Lacour De Fanel has to be the best character in Tenkuu No Escaflowne. He has it all, brains, beauty, courage, the ability to admit when he's wrong, and the desire to change the mistakes he's made. He is brillant, and I don't think killing him was a good way to end the series. Oops, now I'm giving off spoilers! Oh well, it's all good. He is honorable, and loyal to Dornkirk for saving his life. I think he was a very well thought out, and creative character. He's truely one of a kind. |
