Journal Entry July 2000

Our time was spent consumed with wonder.

Wondering how we were going to survive all of this,

wondering how something this unjust could happen in America.

We lay curled up on the bed,
wondering what would happen to our family,
our friends, our employees, the people

who had counted on us for so long.

I succumbed to the sickness in my heart and started to cry

Markus came to the door way and looked at me and said softly

"You've been giving to people for most of your life,
now it's time for those people to give back to you."

"Think of it as Christmas presents,"
he continued

"You've been giving for so long,
let us give you the Christmas presents for a change."

" The more you depend on forces outside yourself,
the more you are dominated by them. "
