To address the very common problem of Anemia and malnutrition in women of childbearing age of Shamsabad, we joined the Vitalet Project for Better Health.
This project has been launched by a very reputed NGO named Social Marketing Pakistan in 2001 and we are among the first partners of it.
It mainly consists of health education and facilities of affordable health supplement, which comprises of a multi-vitamins, essential micro and macro minerals product whose market price is an 80-Pakistani rupee for one-month course. We get the supply of this supplement from the NGO on regular basis at rate of eight rupee per pack and provide our every registered malnourished patient at rate of ten rupees for one month for the maximum of four months.
The activity formally started on 28-11-00 before which I (DR Manzoor Butt) took training about Nutrition from the NGO through a workshop organized on 03-10-00.
Since than, we have supplied this product to 630 patients till 10-09-2003.
There is an increasing interest among women about this product and many come to us enquiring about the Vitalet project. To induce more and more awareness about the importance of balanced diet, we arranged a general meeting of 35 women with nutrition expert from NGO in our clinic on 24-03-01 and thereafter-another special meeting of 30 pregnant/lactating women with same expert on 21-05-01 in our clinic.
We are regularly holding such meetings in our clinic.We have made several groups of women .Each group consists of five women members and a group leader.We invite one group to our clinic at one time and induce training to them in simple nourishing diets.
