Y EN MONTOYA SIGUIENTE ...
by Rodlox
Montoya's POV
~~~
"In my beginning is my end." -T.S.Elliot.
I am dying, senor, as the blood coming out of my wounds doubtless bear testimony to.
No doubt the Queen, wherever she is now, is looking about her in consternation. She did not
foresee this outcome, did she?
Without my presence to rein in the excesses of the dons, what freedom will there be? Had
anyone considered how many dons consider the state to be a toy for their amusement?
Lacking me, what will keep Grisham under control? His libido, perhaps? How does the Queen
plan to handle such things? Offer herself in truce?
How many times have I saved Santa Elena from the more rapacious of the government officials?
How many peasants have I saved from the block and rope?
But none thought of that when I was killed. But perhaps they will now. Perhaps not....people can
be thick-headed.
"Every shadow points to the sun" -Ralph Waldo Emerson
Montoya is dead.
Well, no, not really, but he's close. For real, this time, not like when he caught the Fever.
Damned meddling doctor. I knew there was a reason I hated the British.
Well, at least they're good for something. It's ironic really; the man that Montoya brought to save
his life would be the one to end it. There's a poetic justice somewhere in there.
Just like poetry, to be so damned confusing. The killer who turned healer who killed. Huh. It's so...British. At least the Canadians don't have that much fog in their minds. And for Montoya to fall to such a ...non-violent man...like he says, the Gods mock Montoya. And ole Doc over here, he's probably the only one that would feel guilt over doing such a thing. Well, besides the lovely Senora Hidalgo.
I'm sure if I bothered to open that book of Shakespeare Montoya's always carrying about, I'd find something in there that related to this. But it's not worth the effort. Again, the British with their windy words.
It's better this way. I actually had no part in Montoya's undoing, no matter what others may think.
I'm simply here to help pick up the pieces...and carry on in his place, of course. Maybe with my
"promotion", Maria Teresa will notice me. She certainly flirts with the Colonel, exuse me, ex-colonel often enough. Well, even if she continues to resist my charms, Vera will always be there
for me. Too bad she's so dedicated to that overblown oaf of a husband she's got.
And the doctor...well, he'll just have to go. No one likes the British. Well, except maybe for the
Queen of Swords...
(I hope I didn't piss anyone off by adding this. And my apologies to any British folk who read this...just remember that much of British comedy is at the expense of us Yanks)
