Melwin Joy is currently having his under graduation in civil engineering in
govt. engineering college ,Thrissur. some facts about the fundamentals of
drawing caricatures ,cartoons and portraits are given in the following
paragraphs.
Caricatures can depict as many aspects of a person as are
required with a single portrait. In addition to physical attributes, many other
likenesses can be included. For example, personality traits, character flaws,
occupations, hobbies, affiliations, reputations, or any combination thereof are
fair game in a caricature. Generally speaking, these visual statements are done
with good humor in order to serve a positive purpose. Occasionally though, the
intention is to express criticism of someone's supposed misbehavior. Such
look-a-likes are often the main characters of political cartoons.
While a pastel caricature is the most well-known type, those done on computers
have also become popular. With some painterly know-how, Photoshop and other
digital programs have made it possible to add caricature-like charm to any photo
portrait
As in a comic strip, the promise of a captioned cartoon is that there will be
substantial entertainment reward in return for minimal effort on the reader's
part. The difference is that the story must be told in quite a few less words
than its multi-paneled cousin usually offers and with only one image. To be
successful with this kind of message, both writing and drawing have to be very
precise.
A saving grace for special interest toons is that the expectation for halarity
is not nearly as high as it is in newspapers and magazines targeting the general
public. And because such scenarios are commercial by nature, there usually isn't
license to poke fun for the sake of a big laugh. Instead, the humor must remain
tame, wholesome and politically correct in every way. Therefore, coming up with
some humor around which to base a corporate toon is not quite so difficult. With
their real purpose leaning more towards highlighting a point within an article
or brochure, even those without comedic writing credentials have been known to
pen a commendable captioned cartoon
I have always painted portraits. But it is only since I have consciously
connected to the electrifying worldwide web of life and universal energy that my
portraits have come alive and enabled me to paint people as I now see them: as
true expressions of themselves. A book left at my home "by mistake" was the
catalyst which awoke in me a new awareness of the oneness of all things and the
WOW of where I find myself , right now, on my life's journey.
The minute I saw the picture on the cover, it was as though the cobwebs
accumulated over a lifetime were blown away. I saw how, as individual bundles of
energy in the web of Creation, our energetic vibrations are connected to and may
be felt, read and understood by any other living being in Creation. We are all
plugged into this energetic system, whether we are aware of it or not. A sad,
depressed being, be they a neglected animal, a plant or a human being, has a
very definite energetic signature, which can be read accurately by anyone coming
into contact with them. They will also have very definite colourations to their
vibration. We say "He's feeling blue today", "She's green with envy", and so on,
yet we read these in a largely unconscious way, not taking particular note of
how these energies impinge on and can affect our own energies and those of
everyone else.
Each physical characteristic, each thought, emotion, word and deed has a
powerful energy about it, which, when combined, read as the unique essence of
the being generating them, the soul, so to speak.
Mostly we go with the flow of the energies surrounding us. We might consciously
choose to go against the flow, or decide to change energetic frequencies by
changing our attitudes. Wherever we decide to be , we are always affecting, or
being affected by, the energies with which we associate ourselves. You might say
we are conductors generating the energy of feelings and emotions, which make us
uniquely ourselves. This makes us supremely responsible for the care and
maintenance of the qualities of energy with which we surround ourselves. Are we
happy or sad, weighed down with the difficulties of every day living, or bouyed
up by the realisation of our true divinity? Do we consider ourselves superior or
inferior, beautiful or ugly, rich or poor?
How do you see yourself and how do you interpret what you see? Do you see past
the surface image to the true beauty of who you are inside, your radiant Self?
Sometimes we are so caught up in the everyday hurly-burly of what we call
'making a living' that we forget that we are not merely our bodies, nor
behaviour, nor our thoughts, but something very much grander. More exciting,
more interesting and far more exquisite than our mere physical vehicles.
Imagine it were possible to see these energies with your physical eyes, instead
of only in dreaming or meditation: a re-vision of your personal energetic
signature and of all your energetic connections. Imagine if you could have a
vision of them in front of you to reflect your Self to yourself? With an image
before you of the magnificent being you truly are, no longer would you have to
remain stuck in the frozen beliefs of who you thought you were.
' Soul Portraits' are your own unique map to the treasure of your hidden Self.
What is a Soul Portrait? I have discovered that I am able to translate the
energies with which you are currently working , into visual images, symbols of
where you are in your life right now.
Once I connect and become sensitive to your vibrations, I can sense the energies
surrounding you, which have an essence similar to your own and thus are part of
who you really are.
Through meditation and working with a person's photo and a small amount of
information, I receive impressions of energetic expressions of that persons
essence. I might receive these as feelings or as direct images. I will sometimes
dream their whole picture and it is so insistent that I often get up in the
middle of the night to record the image immediately.
Each feeling I get has a unique signature, which will match a specific symbol or
object. Once I interpret these, I begin to assemble all the symbols on the page
around a picture of the person. The whole picture will have a very definite
arrangement of objects, colours, Runic symbols, sometimes sacred geometry and
numerology, possibly the angelic hierarchy and even past lives which are
representative of that persons' soul. At times the right arrangement comes
quickly and sometimes it takes a lot longer. Often I will just have finished
pencilling it on to the paper when another object or two will come along and
insist on being included. Each symbol will give you more insight into who, what
and where you truly are. The portraits are always uplifting and joyful and
reflect your true soul, beauty and power, offering symbolic clues to your own
map of life. It's a bit like a treasure map, where the treasure is your hidden
Self.
Of course your personal map changes daily as you cover new ground and discover
new views in your personal landscape. I encourage working with the symbology. If
you play with it you can see quite plainly where you really are in relation to
where you might think you are. Whatever aspect of one of the items in your
portrait is relevant to you today, may change to show you another aspect
tomorrow. The amazing thing about these portraits is that you will see new clues
in them every day. The energies will simply transmute according to your needs of
the moment.
Life, as I look back, seems to have been divided into definite compartments of
learning - training, if you like - for the understanding and skills necessary
for this undertaking. From the seemingly unconnected events of being twice
paralysed, running a bakery, living for two years in a war zone, being a foreign
exchange student in different countries, to experiences as varied as being a
farmer's wife, fashion designer, book illustrator, animated film-maker, wife of
thirty years, mother of three, grandmother and restaurateur.
Every single phase of my life has been a step towards preparing myself for
aligning the abilities to utilise this gift, and for allowing myself to become a
visual translator of the myriad energies, which make up a human being. Deep
soul-searching, enriching my creative passion, developing my artistic and
intuitive prowess and opening to higher wisdom, have honed my gifts and talents
to support my life's purpose: that of translating the energies I sense into
images which are part of our everyday living and which can give us glimpses into
our radiant Higher Selves.
A typical session would go something like this:
The client arrives with a full-face photo and to spend a bit of time, over a cup
of tea, to give me a little insight into themselves. The minute I start having a
personal relationship with them, or tuning-in, as I like to think of it, visions
fill my mind's eye, turning my guest instantly into a mysterious being whose
life is filled with secret truths and meanings. I can sense the energy
associated with their feelings and emotions which I will always see in full,
glorious Technicolour. I can see anything in Creation which is connected
energetically to where they are in their lives at this moment.
