His name is also romanized as:
Hsu Chi / Adam Hsu.
Born in 1941 in Shang Hai, in 1949 his family moved to Taiwan where he spent 25 years.
Shifu Xu Ji studied Liu He Tang Lang under shifu Liu Yun Qiao and Mei Hua Tang Lang under shifu Li Kun Shan. In addition, shifu Xu Ji earned a master's degree in Chinese literature at Taiwan Normal University, where he taught both gong-fu and Chinese literature.
He has held honorable positions, such as General Secretary of the National Kung Fu Federation of Taiwan, Instructor to the Republic of Liberia, and Member of the Taiwan Kung Fu Delegation.
Shifu Xu Yi is the former editor and publisher of Wu Tang Martial Arts Magazine, and a past senior editor of the Kung Fu Library of Wu Chow Publishing Company, the largest publisher of kung fu literature. He's published several books in Chinese, and over a hundred articles in English, Chinese, Japanese, Spanish, Italian, Russian, and German. Also, he has been featured on the covers of more than eighteen magazines throughout the world.
In 1978 shifu Xu Yu moved to the USA and started teaching traditional northern gong-fu. Some more recent honors he got include Black Belt Hall of Fame, Black Belt Instructor of the Year, AAU National Senior Advisor, and President of the International and Six-Harmony Praying Mantis Associations.
In 1990, shifu Xu Yi founded the Traditional Wushu Association, a prestigious non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation, perfection, and promotion of traditional Chinese martial arts. This association has members all over the world.
Shifu Xu Yi and his students have participated in numerous performances and workshops both in USA and abroad and he has produced several instructional videotapes.
Since 1999 shifu Xu Yu lives part time in Taipei (Taiwan) and Cupertino, California (USA).
