Michael Haley began his martial arts training in Buffalo, NY, USA in 1981 at the age of 14. First learning Hong Jia, from shifu Ting Fong Wong of Hong Kong, then 5 years later in 1986 he began studying Okinawan Go Ju Ryu Karate under 5th Dan Les Heri where he obtained his black belt in this style.
In 1991 he switched interests back into the Chinese martial arts after attending a seminar from shifu Xun Guang Long. He then began to train in Ba Bu Tang Lang Quan under shifu Dean Economos in Buffalo, NY (USA).
In 1995 Shrfu Haley moved to San Francisco, California, USA to continue studying Ba Bu Tang Lang Quan and Wu Style Tai Ji Quan directly under shifu Xun Guang Long, who certified and ranked him as shifu.
In 1996 he met his Qi Gong teacher, shifu Yen Chu Fan, from Bei Jing, learning Jin Gon Tzu Li Gong (Projecting Qi Skill) and became her first American student. Shifu Yen Chu Fan later moved from San Francisco, California, USA live with her student and now resides in Buffalo, New York, USA.
Shifu Haley teaches Ba Bu Tang Lang Quan and Wu style Tai Ji Quan at his school "Kung Fu USA" in Buffalo, New York, USA. He has taught seminars in New York, New Jersey, California and Florida (USA). Shifu Michael Haley is no longer affiliated to the American Chinese Martial Arts Federation.
