Lin Shi Chun

Praying Mantis Shifu

The information presented in this chart was collected from different sources -see Bibliography-, therefore the romanizations in Pinyin according to the Mandarin pronunciation of the characters sometimes is not available. If you find any mistakes or inaccuracies please contact me.

His name is also romanized as:
Lum Sai Chuan.
Born in 1862, shifu Lin Shi Chun was from Zhao Yuan of Shan Dong province, and since he was a little kid he studied his own family's martial art. Later, his grandfather took in a refugee from the army, who taught Lin the Six Harmony Fist (Liu He Quan). Finally, Lin's father invited Wei De Lin to teach Praying Mantis to the Lin family.
Shifu Lin Shi Chun studied diligently and he and the Six Harmony Mantis style became famous after a famed encounter in the city market. He was involved in a verbal dispute in the market, causing a gang of about 20 men to attack him. Somehow his trouser sash burst open at the start of the encounter, thus he was forced to hold his pants up with his left hand, and defeated the entire gang of attackers with only his right hand and footwork.
Being a respected master, the Ding family from Huang Xian county invited him as the gong fu teacher. He moved there and started teaching the Liu He Tang Lang Quan style.
Shifu Lin Shi Chun passed away in 1935.
