Fleury, asked Commander Vaughn from the bridge, how goes the shuttle configurations?

One more left sir, the Chief Engineer replied.  Well be as good as we can.  Ive got everything under control.

Report to me when youre finished.

Aye.

In a desperate attempt to help stop the oncoming bomber squadron, Lieutenant Mansel had suggested that a few of the Explorers armed shuttles be modified to act as a defense line.  Immediately, Vaughn had agreed, and the Dynamic Duo set to the task.

The Stealthlon boasted a small squadron of four fighters.  Finding people to man the fighters was another story.

Commander Grant DaNastie would be leading the whole operation.  Unfortunately, he was the only one assigned a fighter.

I need three more pilots, the young pilot told Blackbird in a Stealthlon meeting.

If push comes to shove, little brother, Ill fly with ya, Lieutenant Commander Stephen DaNastie responded.

Grant beamed at his brother.  Thanks, man.

That leaves two more open seats, commented General Brungess.  Takers?

Ill fly, volunteered Lieutenant Commander Broadaway, surprising the whole staff.  If its really needed, Ill fly.

Well hey, Ill fly, too, Cain offered, but Blackbird shook his head no.  Ill need you later, Cain, he said.  Special assignment.

I will, volunteered Serena, once again stepping up to the plate.

These four combined with the shuttles and the paltry fighters that Intel has should be enough to exact an effective defense force, Mansel said.  He looked at his chrono.  Not much time left.  We need to get back to the Explorer and prepare.
