Chapter 1

Tokyo Boys and Girls opens with the main character, Kosaka Mimori, praying that she gets to attend Meidai High School to wear her dream uniform, become cute, and spend her high school years with a handsome boyfriend. With the turn of the page, you find out that she made it, and not only is life going great from that, she ends up managing a window seat where she can look right into the boys side of the school. SCORE! Mimori's life is going great. Mimori switches seats with Nana Takaichi, the prettiest girl in class, because Nana can't see very well. This doesn't make the teacher very happy, and he starts arguing with Mimori...and she wins!
Now we go to the boys, who are looking at the girls across the way with some binoculars. Ran a short, but cute, guy decides that Nana is the perfect girl for him. Right as he decides this, his friend Kazukita, holds out a floppy disk and states that the Beta Version of their game is complete. Ran remarks that that was fast, and talks about a one million dollar prize they will receive with it, and starts asking Kazukita questions about it-but Kazukita has other things on his mind, and asks to see the binoculars so he can look at the girls. He looks through them, and through the binoculars spots Mimori, and states, "I see one who looks like a baby monkey."
With that we're transported back to the girls' side. Mimori has just been made class rep by the teacher. She's far from happy about it...until she realizes that the class rep gets to hobnob with the boys more than the other girls do. That is, she's happy until she runs into a scary looking guy, who Nana informs her is part of a biker gang. After Mimori gets over her shock, the teacher tells her that she has to choose an assistant rep, but before she can let out a protest, Nana volunteers to do it with her.
Here we get what seems like some foreshadowing: It shows Mimori at home after all this has happened. She and her little sister are talking about how their dad has been home a lot lately because of lay offs at work.
At school the next day, Mimori and Nana are hard at work being class reps. They have to deliver something to the boys in class 1-A, but they have an extremely hard time finding them. Someone finally points them towards the gym, and they head down there to give it to them...only to walk in on the boys half-naked in the dressing room. Ran runs over and puts Mimori in a headlock, shouting to the other boys that he's caught a peeping Jane and Kazukita is about to grab Nana when she runs off in a panic. Mimori struggles for a moment and finally jerks away from Ran and yells at all the boys. "Shut up and Listen! I'm Mimori Kosaka of the Girls 1-A!" We see a very close up look of Mr. Motorcycle Gang looking surprised, and then Mimori continues, yelling about how she just came to deliver a printout, she's sorry, and GOODBYE. And she takes off.
As she's on her 'merry' way back to her own classroom, Mr. Motorcycle Gang catches up to her and says her name, causing her to spin around and freak out thinking its Ran. When she realizes who it is, she goes into a panic(during which there is a very funny picture) and is about to take off-until he asks her if she went to a certain elementary school in fifth grade. When she agrees that, yes, she went to that elementary school, he introduces himself as Atsushi Haruta...which just confuses Mimori. He gets angry at this, says that he swore he'd get revenge on her, and walks off right as the bell rings. Mimori is even more freaked out about him now.
The next morning, Nana apologizes to Mimori for running off and leaving her. They go up to the roof and put on some nail polish, and it's there that Nana informs Mimori that she is in love with Kazukita. While they go to spy on the boys so Nana can tell Mimori about Kazukita, the guys are talking about their game. Ran, who is carrying the game with him everyone on a floppy disk, runs off to the bathroom, and runs into Mimori who's standing right outside the door. This jolt causes her to drop the nail polish she and Nana had been using and causes Ran to drop the floppy disk. The disk hits the ground, the nail polish remover that they had also brought along hits the ground and breaks and gets all over the disk, essentially wiping it free of anything.
Ran, and Kazukita who hears him freaking out, inform Mimori and Nana that the game was worth one million yen (about $8500) which isn't exactly great news for either of them, considering Mimori was trying to get a boyfriend and Nana was in love with Kazukita. Mimori starts crying and Nana, looking mildly shaken, says they need to get back to class.
Back at home, Mimori is sitting thinking about what happened, when she hears her parents arguing. Her father is yelling at her mother for spending money all the time, and her mother in turn is screaming that she wouldn't be doing it if she wasn't stuck at home all day. Mimori goes to school with that on her mind and stops in the middle of a walkway looking extremely depressed. This is, of course, the time when Haru (er, Haruta) walks up and starts bothering her. He says none of the bad things would have happened had she not been so pushy. He then says she'd always been like that, and finally, in the end, someone got hurt. Mimori won't take this, even if she is feeling depressed, and hits him with her briefcase. She shrieks at him and then runs off. (TO BE CONTINUED)
