Mrs.Regenia Lawrence has been a very successful teacher, but most of all, to the former students of Manila, she has set an example for all of us to follow. She has served in different educational instutions, and we can truly say of her: She is a Great Teacher and Friend to all who know Her. Regenia Kathlyn Cowley attended Mississippi State College for Women and after graduation started her teaching career in 1952 at Egypt,Arkansas. She taught there for three years and moved to Armorel,Arkansas and taught another three years before moving to Manila in 1957, where she gave the Manila School System 32 years of dedicated service before retiring in 1989. Regenia met and married a guy named Robert Lawrence in 1951, They have three children and two grandchildren, who graduated from Manila High School. MHS students will remember Mrs. Lawrence for the various subjects that she taught ~ English, Literature,Speech, Drama, and Civics. Mrs Lawrence enjoyed her work and sponsored the Junior Class in Manila and the Senior Class at Armorel. She directed the Junior and Senior plays and was the cheerleading sponsor. She also set up banquets and proms for the school. She served as President & Secretary of the PTA. She was the faculty sponsor for the Beta Club. Regenia has been titled "Worthy Matron" for the Eastern Star. She was past President of the Business and Professional Women and worked with the American Red Cross swimming program. Regenia attends First Baptist Church in Manila, where she has been a member for many years and served as Sunday School teacher. Regenia has no favorite movies, but likes books by Steven King & Ann Rice.
