Mr L.K. Holt Sr. was born December 30,1908 near Ash Flat,Arkansas. His family moved to Bay,Arkansas where they farmed for a living. L.K. attended Bay school through the eight grade. From there he went to Jonesboro and attended Arkansas A&M for six years ,which is now Arkansas State ( ASU ) He graduated in 1928 from Arkansas A&M and started his teaching career in Bay, Arkansas where he made 70 dollars per month ( when he got paid ) ```````````````````````````````````````````````````` ````Mr. Holt moved from Bay to the Daugherty School, a rural school south of Manila. After two years Daugherty consolidated with Manila,so he moved to the Manila district. He spent 38 years in Manila with a total of 42 years in education. During his career he taught math,science and was principal before moving into Vocational Agricultural. After becoming the Agricultural teacher he returned to school at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville to complete a degree in Agriculture.````````````````````````````` ````Mr. Holt and his lovely wife Grace ( died in 1989 ) raised nine children. They all graduated from Manila High School. ````During his retirement Mr. Holt has served on the Manila school board, city council and raised a big garden which he shared with his friends and neighbors. He has given up gardening in recent years. ```Mr. Holt is still going strong at age 96. He loves riding around reminiscing about things of the past, goint to Hardy,Ar. where he spent a lot of time camping out with his FFA boys and hunting. He still enjoys a ride around Big Lake ( Mallard Lake ) if you catch him on a good day he may even show you where the Blue Bird houses are that he helped put up. He still enjoys a good meal of Chinese food, hot tamales, ( he remembers when tamales were homade in corn shucks ) or a good steak. His favorite pastime these days is playing dominos with anyone who will play. ``NOTE...Mr Holt enjoys hearing from his former students and friends.
