Ranma Saotome, the main character of Ranma ˝, the most longest running anime to ever be displayed on American TV !!! Ranma is not the typical teenager for various reasons, including being a martial artist, having 3 fiances and a crazy stalker, and the most significant fact, he’s half girl.
Ranma was taken to China on a training mission by his father at an early age, sometime during this training mission, Ranma tragically fell into a cursed spring which when splashed with cold water would transform him into a girl!
Most of the characters in Ranma ˝ appear from Ranma’s own past, this would include Ryoga, Ukyo and Shampoo! In volume 1 manga, Ranma’s engagement with Akane started when their fathers, Genma and Soun, decided to betroth the two and that when Ranma was finally old enough he would marry Akane and inherit the Tendo Dojo which would become the Saotome School of Anything Goes Martial Arts. When Ranma arrived and his secret was revealed to everyone at the Tendo dojo, Ranma was recommend to be engaged to Akane because she hated boys and Ranma was half girl! When Ranma first met Ryoga (vol. 1) years after elementary school, when Ranma had left for a trip to China, he thought Ryoga’s anger was due to the reason that at lunch time, Ranma always finished the curry bread! He later met Shampoo (vol. 3) who had tracked him down and was trying to kill him in his girl form, when she found out she was a he, she made herself his fiance saying it was an amazon village law. Ukyo was Ranma’s childhood friend, little did he know Ukyo was a she! She came to get revenge on him (vol. 8) for promising to take care of her and then leaving her behind and stealing her father’s okonomiaki cart, but during the process, finds out she has a crush on him and reclaims him as her fiance!
So, as I’ve explained, Ranma has a pretty complicated life! When it comes to martial Arts, Ranma has cannot be beat, he has remarkably beaten all opponents, this includes martial arts calligraphy and martial arts dining! Ranma may have the worst hand-writing you’ve ever seen, but in my opinion, he’s incredibly intelligent, (even though he thought the relationship of Romeo and Julliet was father and daughter). He is very skilled, he learnt the attack Hiryu Shoten Ha (heaven blast of the dragon) with hardly any help from Cologne, also he can recognize fighting techniques and he usually figures out most mysteries like when Kuno lost his memory (vol. 17). Ranma is also very persistent, he never gives up, especially when he loses to a duel!
Ranma & Akane
Personally, I feel Ranma loves Akane, as a best friend whos always there for him or as true love, who knows?! My guess is he’s to arrogant to come to know Akane more! More to come soon aswell as image gallery!
