my treasured original copy of Strange Walking Man and the cover of bam caruso records re-release of strange walking man by John Nettledon

Strange Walking Man was eventually released on EMI's Parlophone label (R5780).It was one or the very first releases to be made at the legendary 'Abbey Road Studios' then new 8 track equipment. The B side was an instrumental called Steam.

Brian Engle left the band a year later. The band continued with vocals being shared by Martin Briley and Paul, which led to the band taking on a more commercial appeal. They also replaced drummer Barry with Liverpudlian David Potts to give the songs more heavier Grooves.

With this change of direction came the shortening of the name

They performed a bizzare assortment of gigs ranging from weekly shows at the legendary Star Club, Hamburg to support gigs to big concert bands like The Nice,Spirit,Deap Purple to name but a few, they were a favorite on the collage circuit and the London club scene making regulare appearances at The Marquee,The Speakeasy and the Blazes. One particular night at the Speakeasy they performed a 3 hour set joined by the legendary Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac.

Sadly after two years of touring and recording,of which must be some master tapes out there somewhere. Mandrake slowly disintegrated Martin Briley left (the main stay of the band) They continued for a while as a three piece. With myself taking care of vocals, although still well received by audiences at gigs. things never seamed quite as good. I was head-hunted by a band called T2 so left the band in 1971.

where are they now ?........

Brian Engle now runs a successful music copyright  company.....making sure musos get their royalties ..

Martin Briley.. the last I heard of Martin was that he had written material with Julian Lennon and Jeff Healey......Im sure he is receiving success as a musician

Martin Hooker...?   Barry Nightingale...?

myself... I have a small Studio in Reading/Henley area, produce artists and write music for TV and Video.I also had a UK hit a few years back with a dance track called "Harmonica Man" www.bigmindmusic.com

But still the influence of working with my first real band will stay with me forever

happy memories
