Judge Comment's Directed Towards Mandisa... (1) Audition: Randy - "Hey! What's your name?" (Mandisa - "Mandisa") "Mandisa what?" (Mandisa - "Just Mandisa, the first name is enough to deal with I think.") "Alright, so what are you going to sing?" (Mandisa - "I can do "Fallin")
Paula - "Alright"
Randy - "Alright, here we go." (Mandisa sings)
Paula - "Whew! Get down Mandisa."
Randy - "Simon was rocking."
Simon - "I...terrific, I mean, everything I hoped you would be, you were on that, Mandisa, and I like the fact that you want to be known as one person."
Paula - "I'm supposing we all can say together on the count of three?"
Randy and Paula - "1, 2, 3..."
All - "Yes!" Randy - "Welcome ot Hollywood! Welcome to Hollywood! Show improve in Hollywood!" (Mandisa leaves)
Simon - "Do we have a bigger stage this year?" Randy - (Laughing) "Oh, come on."
Paula - She's got like a "Frenchie" power."
Simon - "Forget Frenchie, she's like France."
(2) Top-24 Annoucement:
Mandisa - "Well, you didn't need a bigger stage, but you could've got a bigger chair. Simon, a lot of people want me to say a lot of things to you. But, this is what I want to say to you...is that, yes, you hurt me. And I cried...and it was painful, it really was. But, I want you to know that I've forgiven you. And that, you don't need someone to apologize in order to forgive somebody...and I figured that if Jesus could die so that all of my wrongs could be forgiven, I can certainly extend that same grace to you. So, I just wanted you to now that."
Randy - "Amen."
Simon - "Mandisa, I am humbled. Come here, give me a kiss. Come here...give me a kiss! I'm just so appalling aren't I? Hmmm?"
Mandisa - "You are, but...you're coming."
Paula - "Mandisa, aren't you glad that I sit next to him so that I can stomp him, sock him, and do anything?"
Mandisa - "I am, Paula...what would I do without you?"
Simon - "...so I'll carry on with what I am supposed to be doing. Um, and I am sorry to tell you...you are going to have to go through this again. Because you are through to the next round."
Mandisa - "Oh my God! Oh, thank you so much, thank you so much!"
Randy - "I loved your speech, I loved your speech. I loved your speech...you said the right thing to him."
Paula - "You just are a baby doll."
Simon - "We're sort of dating now...we're sort of dating."
Mandisa - "You're not my type."
Randy - "Yeah, say I'm sorry Simon."
Paula - "You're not her type, I love it!"
Simon - "Mandisa, I do apologize."
Randy - "Oh, finally I heard it, Wow, thank you."
Paula - "Congratulations!"
Mandisa - "Thank you! You all are looking at my bottom when I'm walking out, are you?"
Paula - "Honey, you walk well!"
Randy - "Work it out girl, work it out."
(3) Never - COMING SOON!
(4) Cry
Paula - "Mandisa, you are one of a kind. And you are needed in this competition...you have unbelievable vocal range, and what I really like what you're doing is you're taking songs probably that you wouldn't normally sing, and you're putting your own flavor in it...and I just, that's taking risks, but taking risks in the right direction. And you have the most beautiful face. You're just...wowing us."
Randy - "Yo...what's up man? I appreciate the dog pound shout out - that was nice...I like that." (Paula interjects by imitating a dog) "It makes me feel warm and fuzzy. Um, I you now, the verse was a little rough for me - It started a little shakey, like you couldn't quite find the pitch, cause it was really low...ah, when you get to the center of your tone, when you're singing up and you're belting - that was cool, too. There was a couple little sharp places where you overshot it but, I mean, listen you've got great vocals - you can definitely sing - and the song choice I wasn't thrilled with. But ah, it's almost like country night - I know it's like a theme going on tonight. I mean, I wasn't (Mandisa interjects with "Yeah, Nashville!") No, I love Nashville, but I mean, I wasn't thrilled with that song for you. Ah, cause I want to see you do everything you do - like all of ya'll - I wanna see you throw it down every night, bring me everything you got, leave nothing on the floor - in the cupboard. I wanna hear it all, and I didn't hear it all tonight from you." (Mandisa ends with "Well if America keeps me around, I'm just gettin' started") "Alright, alright, alright..."
Simon - "I think America will keep you around for awhile. Um...Mandisa, I much prefer the way you looked last week. I think this is a very cabaret, very old fashioned, um - I agree with Randy, I don't think you've found the right song yet. I don't think you came out here and totally nailed something, like you're capable of doing. However, when you're on it, I don't think there's a better female singer in this competition."
(5) I'm Every Woman
Randy - "Yo, wow...Ok, so yo, one of the greatest things about this show is you never know what's going to happen one night to the next...whatever, who's going to rise to the occasion. Yo, I'm giving you your props - you know why? Check it out; this to me is the best vocal by a female this season! And yo, check it out, she just set the bench mark girls, this is the one to beat! A hot one Dog Pound! Yo! That was ridiculous!"
Paula - "Mandisa, that's what we're talking about. You took a song and owned it; man the arrangement was awesome - off the hook. You sang your butt off, and you sounded amazing, and that...I got chills - whew! Awesome!"
Simon - "So, you didn't like it? Mandisa, every one of these girls are going to hate your guts tonight, because you made everyone who appeared before you - appear ordinary. This is the only one that I would rewind on my TiVo and watch again. It was in a completely and utterly different league. Brilliant."
(6) Don't You Worry Bout A Thing
Randy - "Yo, so alright check it out. You were amazing last week right, this wasn't as great as last week for me. I mean I saw some of your personality. I don't know what it is man, these Stevie songs are great, and I'm telling you, they are the hardest songs in the world to sing and bring some original to them. But, so far tonight for me, you're the best so far."
Paula - "The very last thing that Stevie said is absolutely - it holds true for you. You can sing anything, and entertain others."
Simon - "Okay, now we have a competition. Best so far."
(7) I Don't Hurt Anymore
Randy - "So Mandisa...so check it out, wow. I'm really uh, uh, I'm a little speechless right now - I've got a little bit of a cold too, but - check it out man. What a classy, great, amazing way to start the night. I mean, this was an unbelievable performance, and check it out, check it out, you know what's cool? What's cool is that, I don't know who's waiting in the wings backstage, but ya'll gotta bring it tonight. Mandisa's set the mark...come on now."
Paula - "It can be very difficult with these genres of music to be able to be in the seat and escape. You took me right back to the 50's, your performance was flawless, you're a thoroughbred. You are a thoroughbred."
Simon - "Mandisa, you are blossoming. I mean that was, a very, I mean a part from the vocal; it was a very - sexy performance. It's like a great stripper's song, that song. I absolutely loved it."
(8) Shackles
Randy - "There's no question that you can definitely, definitely sing, you are one of the best singers in this. But, I mean still for me, I don't know the song choices for me I don't know man, I don't quite get it. But, I don't know..."
Paula - "All I know is that there's a new religion, and 40 million people have now joined the Church of Mandisa. One, one, just a little bit of constructive criticism, you are the most brilliant singer - I would love to see you color it up with a little bit more vulnerability next choice."
Simon - "Mandisa, I thought it was a bit indulgent if I am being honest with you. I just didn't get that...not for me."
(9) Any Man Of Mine
Randy - "Alright, so you, uh, I can tell this is going to be another interesting night for me. Listen, ah, weird song choice for me, and the beginning of it wasn't really that hot for me. It was like, it was weird cause you were finding your lower range and it wasn't just quite connecting. But, the good thing is that at least at the end, the last four bars, you got it together and you showed some of that personality...cause I was like lost. I liked the last four bars, that's good at least I liked somethin'."
Paula - "Five second of the song?" (Randy - "Yeah, the last five seconds were great." Simon - "I liked the four seconds after.") "Mandisa you can sing the phone book, you can sing the encyclopedia, you can sing anything - your voice is amazing. The song for me, I don't know, but you know, your voice is there."
Simon - "I thought the song was horrible Mandisa, to be honest with you...I did. (Crowd Boos) Why is it...excuse me, Why is it that I get booed for being constructive? (Paula - "Because people...you are boo-able.") "Well, it know...whatever, all I'm saying is I didn't like the song, we now know that this kind of music doesn't - it was fun, it was cutsie, but it was just...I actually liked the four seconds afterwards." |
