Voices
By Amanda Wray
If you took the time to know me...
But most people don't.
There is so much to see...
But most people won't.
All these people in my head
I can hear them call
Through me they are not dead,
For I will voice them all.
But my walls have grown too high
And I can't let them out
And the time passes by
And they shout and shout.
I must let them free
Or the world will never know
The things that you see,
Socrates, Darwin, Galileo.
Once I had a sword
Held high for all to see
I looked down to the world
And they looked up to me.
Now I am soaked by the rain
And on bended knee
I feel so much pain
But you just won't see.
For the rain hides my tears
As the voices cry
And the chill hides my fears
I can't let them die.
Why won't you know me?
I can't let you know me.
