Our Story
|
When our college years began, I believe we went in with our eyes wide open; however, what we learned could never have been anticipated... The university did not require, but encouraged incoming freshman to attend freshman orientation. So, several hundred apprehensive freshmen were gathered together in an auditorium, forced to endure the perky onslaught of juniors screaming about how wonderful our college experience would be. Afterwards, we were divided into groups to endure more shouting and perkiness. In my group, I noticed a lovely, dark-skinned girl with long hair. She seemed just as annoyed with the situation as I was. We talked and found out that we both came from the same city (not Memphis like everybody else) and we would be living in the same dorm. (Sevier Hall)Now, hundreds of girls cramed into a tiny living space for four years, just doesn't seem like a good idea, but somehow, we managed to live through it. Tanya and I remained friends through out college. After graduation, we dutifully stayed in touch, promising to see each other when we could...and we did. In the summer of 1998, my husband and I moved over 1600 miles away. Tanya and I still remain great friends and take turns visiting each other. We share wonderful memories and I've archived some of the better ones in the links below. Feel free to peruse them at your leisure! |
