Andrew has been adjusting well to life here in Belgium. He has learned useful phrases such as “je suis petit” (I am small). He has also managed to taste a number of the Belgian delicacies (fries, chocolate, waffles, and beer). We have kept moving while Drew has been going through this adjustment phase.
In the past five days, we have been in four different Belgian cities (Mons, Brussels, Bruges and Braine-le-Comte). We have gone bowling with two Germans and an Estonian. We cut a rug at a Belgian Soirée. We saw a band from Duluth (yes MN) in concert. I went to my mid-year Fulbright meeting. We explored Bruges (where the picture above was taken). We dog sat.
Needless to say, we are tired, but it was all good fun. The best way to describe any of these events is by looking at my new pictures (www.manderhill.shutterfly.com). This blog is short because I have to pack. That’s right. The craziness has not stopped. I have vacation this week because of Carnival (you have to love Catholic countries). Instead of partaking in Carnival activities, we are fleeing the country. Ok, maybe just leaving for a couple days to go to warm, sunny Stockholm, Sweden. We are probably the only people crazy enough to go north in February, but we’re doing it. We are flying out tonight, and we will be in Sweden until Thursday night. I honestly don’t know what we are going to be seeing. Andrew is in charge of that. I was in charge of finding the place to stay. We will be staying in a hostel that’s in a boat on the Mälaren River. So stay tuned for pictures and details of our Scandinavian adventures later this week!
