After a Belgian Show, an American Type Weekend is Needed

Thursday night I went to what is called "Soiree Cabaret". This wasn't a normal party. This started off with a show put on by students from the college of international interpretors, the college of which I am a part. I didn't know what to expect, but wow. We, being Aphrodite, Victoria and I, arrived just in time for a three piece band consisting of two electric guitars and a keyboard. This painful experience lasted 10minutes as the two on the electric guitars frolicked on the stage trying to be Angus but lacking any talent. The crowd was cheering on the bahavior as I cringed in pain. One even tried to play with his tongue, not kidding. When they were finished, I let out an audible "thank god" as the next equally talented but not as painful act came on. This act was lip syncing with back-up dancers. I don't think I need to explain. After that, there was some talent that crossed the stage. Some. It very much reminded me of a middle school talent show. I was shocked. This was followed by a normal discotheque style party.  No different than the others.

After that experience on Thursday, I got a full dose of Americanism throughout the weekend. Friday, I went out to lunch with 5 other Americans to a place where I had salad, that's right, no meat and potatoes, actual salad. That evening, I went to see Woody Allen's film "Scoop", followed by getting a cup of hot cocoa and talking to Drew over Skype. Then on Saturday, I went to Brussels for a potluck (try explaining that to Europeans) with the other Fulbrighters. I then went with some of the others to an American bar called Fat Boys where we stayed and cheered on Michigan in the Ohio State/Michigan Football game.

I think the only thing I could've added to the weekend to make it more American would be a trip to McDonalds, but the show didn't make me go completely insane.

I hope that everyone has a great Thanksgiving. I will be partaking in a Thanksgiving meal at the Sheraton in Brussels. This will be quite a bit fancier than I'm used to but at least I will get my turkey and my pumpkin pie.

Skype is the best thing in the world! And you get to see American Football? Austria doesnt even show it except the Super Bowl. I am jealous!
