Prof.Mandawi Singh ,daughter of Shri.Lal Suresh Singh and Smt.Susheel Kanti of Khairagarh Raj -Family is a prodigious product of the IInndira Kala Sangeet Viswavidyalaya,Khairagarh. Born on 18th August 1964 she has obtained her 'Kovid ' and M.A degrees in Kathak Dance and topped in the merit list at all the examinations and bagged Gold medal also.
She is a "Ganda Bandh" disciple of Dr.P.D.Ashirwadam (Ex-H.O.D & Dean ,Department of Dance,Indira Kala Sangeet Viswavidyalaya,Kahiragarh.). Being a 'Ganda Bandh' Disciple of late Guru Pt. Lachhu Maharaj and having obtained his Ph.D for his valuable research on "The Contribution of Raja Chakradhara Singh of Raigarh to Kathak Dance" Dr.Ashirwadam trained Mandawi in both the styles -- Lucknow and Raigarh.
The Sur- Singar Samsad of Mumbai by recognizing her talent conferred her the title "Sringar Mani" in 1984 at the Kal-Ke Kalakar Sammelan and also performed in the Prestigious Swami Haridas Sangeet Samaroha in Mumbai in 1985 where she received unprecedented acclamations both from the audience and press. Having performed at Raj -Bhawan ,Bhopal she was highly appreciated by His Excellency, the Governor of Madhya Pradesh (Prof.K.M.Chandy) and the chief minister Sri. Motilal Bhora.
Being a meritorious student she has completed her Ph.D thesis titled "The life of Guru Lachhu Maharaj and his contributation to Kathak Dance" under the guidance ship of Dr.Ashirwadam. Her book "Bharatiya sanskriti -Me- Kathak- Parampara" is a master piece and a valuable contribution to the literary field of Kathak Dance.
Prof.Mandawi is a regular performer of the Television. As a solo performer she has performed all over India at various Music And Dance Festivals and received wide appreciation from the audience and Press as well.
Prof.Mandawi's Repertory consist of slokas,Amadas of Guru Lachhu Maharaj,Paranas of Raja Chakradhara Singh of Raigarh and a varieties of compositions by Dr.Asirwadam (Abhinaya on Bhajans,Ghazals and Thumuries). Her style has all nuances of of Kathak in their pure and sophisticated forms.
At present Prof. Mandawi Singh is working as the Dean and Head of the Department of Kathak Dance Faculty at Indira Kala Sangeet Viswavidyalaya, Khairagarh,Chhattishgarh.
