What is a mandala ? tibet

It is a symbolic representation of the Universe.

«Mandala» comes from Sanskrit, an ancient language from India.
It means «Circle» or «Palace».

In the western world, people talk about «cosmogonic» drawings or «psycho-cosmogrammes»,
Cosmogony being a theory, both scientific and mythic, about how the Universe was created …

Going back to the dawn of time, in whatever culture or place, Man has always represented Creation
and the Divine in almost the same ways : the circular archetype, symbol of Absolute, Infinity and Unity ...

Even if the more or less sophisticated shapes of Mandalas slightly differ from one another,
the mystical roots are generally very close.

Mandalas ( sacred circles ) are mostly used to support meditation and knowledge,
or even initiation and healing and allows to progressively reach a global vision ...

A Mandala can be a painting, a drawing, a sculpture (Aztecs), a production of many-coloured sand
(Navajos and Tibetans), a stained-glass window (Christian rosaces), a mosaic (Romans and Moslems),
a jade (Chinese) or even a monument (the Angkor temple) ... ( see mandalas historiques ).

Using the Mandala technique I can represent and magnify the unbelievable story of Evolution
(big-bang, atoms, galaxies, stars, planets, animals, Man). ( see page 3 ).

I can as well create aesthetic reflection support ( see page 2 ) ...

... and finally gather, in one and only picture, the diverse spiritualities from all around the world …
since, as stressed by C.G. Jung, «one should not aim at perfection but at globality». ( see page 1).

This is why I want to share my passion for the art of Mandala, in an artistic,
ecumenical and humanistic momentum.

On this site you will find all my recent paintings dedicated to Mandalas,
as well as an exceptional selection of traditional and historical works,
representative of most civilizations.

Like the wise Lao Tseu  I think that the essentials are enigmatic … that,
through beauty I can lift a corner of life’s, human mind’s and Cosmos’ veil …
but it is in persevering together, all together, that we will reach for higher and further targets.
