BEST BEEF STEW

Ingredients:

 

1 lb stew beef

1 tbsp shortening

1 clove garlic, minced

1 small onion, chopped

½ tsp salt

tsp pepper

1 can tomato soup

¾ cup red wine

¼ cup water

¼ tsp basil

¼ tsp thyme

½ cup catsup

1 package frozen mixed vegetables

 

Directions:

 

Brown meat.  Add garlic and onion, sauté.  Sprinkle with salt and pepper.  Stir in soup, wine and water.  Cover and simmer.  Add spices and catsup.  Arrange vegetables on top of meat and gravy.  Cover and simmer for 1½ hours.
