2008: The Minister of
Communications and Information Technology, A Raja inaugurated the Exhibition
organized by India Post on January 2, 2008 at Chennai. Raja also released a
set of 4 postage stamps featuring Endemic Butterflies of Andaman & Nicobar
Islands and a book '1857 Through Indian Postage Stamps' at the inaugural
function. There were 350 exhibits in 1298 frames on display in 12 classes. Kanimozhi, Member of Parliament and daughter of the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu was the chief guest at the Valedictory Function and distributed the awards on concluding day. Four special covers were issued, one on each day from 3rd to 6th January.

Logo of INPEX 2008 : The evolution of 'Writing' marks the milestone in the development of civilization of the humankind. Likewise the invention of postage stamp denotes the landmark of the postal history. The logo showing the perforation stands for the stamp collecting activity, the word written in Tamil language which means 'all over the world' symbolises the fact that postage stamp, crossing all countries, enjoys the freedom of transit all over the world. |

Mascot of INPEX 2008 - "Mayoori" : Mayoori, the swordtail butterfly of papilionidai family called Tamil Peacock largely found in Niligiris, T.N and Kerala and an endangered species is the mascot of the Inpex - 2008. Butterfly represents colour beauty and speed, akin to the colourful and beautiful stamp, which knows no boundaries. The speed denotes the fastness with which the stamped letters are transmitted and delivered throughout the world. |

"Crocodile Hunter" Steve
Irwin on Stamp: Steve Irwin famously known as "Crocodile
Hunter" will has been commemorated on a stamp a year after his death. The
stamp, which pictures Irwin with his daughter Bindi, son Bob and a snake,
went on sale recently. The proceeds of the stamp sale will go to Irwin's
conservation charity, Wildlife
Warriors. |
| Largest Postage Stamp: Dutch printer Koninklijke Johan Enschede has produced the largest postage stamp ever printed which measures 60cm in length and is 49.3cm wide. It will be registered in the Guinness Book of World Records as the largest postage stamp ever produced. The stamp will be pasted on an enormous postcard measuring 1.5m in width and three meters in length. |

Maria Sharapova is a stamp Collector! : Recently, when Tennis star Maria Sharapova the 2004 Wimbledon Champ was asked about her hobbies, she first spoke about her love for stamps! But was embarrassed after the reporters asked her further questions about her favorite stamp. A philatelist may wonder what is wrong with her taking up this hobby, when many important persons including Presidents of Nations had/has this interesting and popular Hobby. |

Swiss Post has released a one franc stamp on Roger Federer, the tennis player from Basel area who has officially been at the top of the ATP rankings for the longest number of consecutive weeks. The stamp is in news not for his achievements, but for Swiss Post too normally do not feature living persons on stamps! |

Bollywood Actress Preity Zinta helped unveil India's four rose-scented stamps of the face value Rs.15, Rs.15, Rs.5 and Rs.5 and a souvenir sheet on Feb 7, which is the second of the scented stamp after the Sandalwood stamp released in 2006. |
