The mother of Indira Gandhi. She also took part in India's freedom struggle.
Belonged to Kashmiri Pandit family. In spite of her ill health she was of great support to her husband Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru during, his time as a freedom fighter. She herself took part in the struggle and was sent to prison on various occasions.
