Hockey stick - Don't get Checked!

By Tidalshark

First and foremost...I have the missing boxscore from last Saturday. I will likely get it up on Sunday as I've been invited into work tomorrow and I really can't pass up the money.

Besides, it's very faint and will require some translation. And the copier at work might help with that.

Fisch wants to know what's with the beads. Is it Marde Gras or something? I pointed out these are not my Marde Gras beads. Moving week is next week but I will have to come over for a game during Marde Gras (with the socks and the M.G. jersey and the beads) so he gets the whole effect.

Another nice turn out tonight and the arena looked very festive as well. I hope we can keep it looking just as nice once the holiday season is over.

I met Perricone Bonita tonight as well as Mike (mikeyrs). The Bonitas were not dancing but were helping out. Now, I looked around and didn't really see them, so I have my suspicions on this one, but...

Whoever played Mandy tonight did a GREAT job. Much Kudos!

Score by Period:

Lakeland Loggerheads 0 1 0
Miami Manatees       1 0 1

First period - Scoring:
1, MIA- E Perricone (Hewer, Swider), 12:20.

Penalties:
C Sayler, LAK (Roughing), 04:05;
D Pavlik, LAK (Slashing), 07:06;
Z Vanc, MIA (Tripping), 07:50;
R Kiley, MIA (Hi-Stick), 12:41;

C Sayler, LAK (Hooking), 15:38;
S Desjardin, LAK (Holding), 18:50.

I feel like I was watching some other game tonight. It was hockey, but maybe it was played with an alternate set of rules.

In any case, Eric Perricone's goal was called as unassisted, but I believe that Oak Hewer should have had an assist on that one.

Hopefully the scoring the will get changed.

In the meantime, the Manatees scored the goal at 12:20. Then Mike Foy called high-sticking on Ryan Kiley and sent him to the box, but the high-sticking was called for 12:41 despite the fact that the puck hadn't dropped yet and the clock was still sitting on 7:40?

Was this supposed to be a delayed penalty? If not, was it a crystal ball penalty? Or was this just Foy trying to even up the game?

Meanwhile, Cainer gets high-sticked, bleeds all over the ice and nothing gets called? What's up with that?

By the time I'd hobbled over to the concession stand, there was a good half an hour long line. Time to open another concession stand kids.

Additionally we'd regressed again and were down to only Bud and Molson (losing the Bud Lite and the Heineken along the way somewhere.) Makes perfectly good sense to me. More fans, less beer.

So I sat down in the Disabled Section next to the concession stand and watched the second period from there. As a result...

Second Period - Scoring:
2, LAK- J Sakate (C Sayler), 17:07.

Penalties: D. Johnson, MIA (Roughing) 1:56
L McCarthy, MIA (Fighting), 05:50

J Quilty, LAK (Roughing), 05:50;
T Perry, MIA (Interference), 12:32;
J Picard, MIA (Cross-Check), 15:41;

J Sakate, LAK (Holding), 18:52.

I was talking to Darsys ("What do you mean your moving?") and missed Darcy Johnson's penalty.

I did ask him if he'd put down on his comment card that I'd told him about the team and he said, "Well, I put down that a friend told me. I didn't mention you by name."

(So much for my team signed jersey for getting six season tickets sold...)

Jim Quilty started something with Liam McCarthy and then turtled (well, he IS a turtle) and Liam just kind of wailed on him while he was down on the ice which led to the second weirdness of the game.

Quilty got two for roughing and McCarthy got five for fighting and that gave the turtles a three minute power play? Maybe I've just never seen it called that way before, but I don't recall anyone going off for five and giving someone a three or five minute power play?

In any case, the Manatees killed off the penalty. Carl Poissant made some excellent saves in the net for the Loggerheads as well. It would have been a different score if not for his goaltending. He did keep the Tees out of the net on some great opportunities.

Third Period - Scoring:
3, MIA- R Kiley (Socholotuk, Donnette ), 01:08.

Penalties:
R Miller, LAK (Boarding), 3:33;
L McCarthy, MIA (Hooking), 10:25.

No assists were called on Kiley's goal and I'm sure that should change too.

Nice and entertaining game by both teams and a Manatees victory! I would have like to have seen the crowd get into it more, but perhaps they were tired out from Christmas?

Power-Play Conversions:
Lakeland Loggerheads - 1 for 6;
Miami Manatees - 0 for 7.

(Once again, the Molson power-play was not working...)

Shots On Goal:

Lakeland Loggerheads  9 11 10 -- 30
Miami Manatees       10  8 11 -- 29

Goalies:
Lakeland - C. Poissant (29 shots, 27 saves; record 0-6-0);
Miami - M Gowan (30 shots, 29 saves; record 4-2-0).

Referee: Mike Foy
Linesmen: Kyle Steel, Thom Cullen

Attendance: 1,625

I asked Hatty if she was coming to the game tomorrow and she said "We'll were just discussing that the last time the Panthers beat Anaheim was..."

"1993 and I'm bringing your pictures tomorrow."

"We'll be here."

I'm not above bribing people to get them to the games....

Aside from the comments on the concessions...I have two constructive suggestions:

1) Mandy needs a bit of attributes up top. I mean, she IS female. I would only have enhanced her performance if she'd had something to shake.

I'm not suggesting we go hog wild with this as my friend Erin did with Mudonna character, but...this is the land of "Nip, Tuck" after all.

2) I've seen (hula-)hoops used at games before to help judge the center of the ice. In some cases, the team would put down three or four different colored ones, the smallest one being the most difficult to hit. So like your largest hoop might be two free ticket vouchers with the prizes going up as the hoop sizes get smaller and closer toward the center.

The Manatees take on the Barracudas tomorrow night. Be there or be square! Bring your mullet. With Duguay coming into town again Im still hoping I can talk Sean into holding a Manatees mullet contest during the first and second. ;)

USALandSale.com three stars of the game:

3: Eric Perricone
2: Mark Gowan
1: Ryan Kiley

I would had switched the the 2nd and 3rd. Honorable mention to Carl Poissant from the Lakeland Loggerheads.
