Manatees fillet Barracudas, 4-2 | ||
By TidalsharkThe Miami Manatees downed the Jacksonville Barracuda in front of a very spirited holiday crowd of 1,700 at the Miami Arena. After a hard fought first period, Kevin Swider opened the scoring for the Manatees at 5:22 of the second period. Oak Hewer and Dan Donnette had the assists on the tally. Just over two minutes later, Eric Perricone notched his twelfth goal of the season, an unassisted effort coming at 7:38.Referee Clay Sigurdson had just called coincidental penalties with the Manatees already down by one when Mike Wirll took the �Cudas first bite of the night. Mike Johnson assisted on the marker, which sent the teams into the locker rooms at the end of the second stanza with the Tees up by one. The teams would battle early in the third period before Zdnek Vanc netted his first puck of the season to put the Tees up by two. Vanc received some help from rookies Josh Liebenow and Trevor Socholotuk who were credited with the assists. With Perricone in the penalty box on one of Sigurdson�s interference calls, Ryan Kiley fired in a rebound of a Darren Cain shot that made its way past Brandon Snee to make it 4-1 Manatees. With the clock running down, Chris Harper fired past Mark Gowan for Jacksonville, but it would be too little too late for the league leading Barracudas, who fell to 10-3-0 on the season. All three Barracuda losses have come from the sticks of the Manatees, who improved to 7-5-2 on the season. Gowan turned way 34 Jacksonville shots for the win, while Snee managed 23 saves for the Cudas in the loss. The Manatees take to the road tomorrow to face off against the Lakeland Loggerheads at the Lakeland Center.
