World Hockey Association 2 Press Release CELEBRATION, Fla. � The World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) is proud to announce the appointment of Olympic Gold Medalist and 1980 Team USA Captain Mike Eruzione, to the WHA2 Board of Governors. Eruzione will be the Co-Chairman and Senior Advisor. �The addition of Mike Eruzione adds a lot of credibility to our league.� David Waronker, WHA2 Co-founder and Chairman of the WHA2 Board of Governors, said. �He is probably one of the most important figures in American Hockey.� Eruzione scored the game-winning goal versus Russia in what was dubbed a �Miracle on Ice�. Eruzione and a group of young, unknown hockey players defeated the mighty Russian Olympic Team. Team USA then went on to defeat Finland to win the Gold Medal. �It�s a new venture for me.� Eruzione said. �It�s an exciting league. And it is something I�ve always wanted to be involved in and now have the opportunity.� Eruzione will offer advice, appear at league and team special events, and act as a spokesperson for the WHA2. �I have a passion and a love for the sport of hockey and will be able to offer some new ideas, thoughts, and perspectives. I�m really looking forward to the start of the WHA2 inaugural season.� Eruzione said. "When you think of Mike, you think of a young player who was born to be a leader.� Waronker said. �You think of someone who managed to reach the highest level possible through dedication, honesty, and hard work.� �That is that we want to preach to our players, staff and everyone who is a part of the WHA2. Good things come from learning from good people. It can not get better for us than by having Mike as a part of our league.� The WHA2 will ice six teams for the 2003 � 2004 season: the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals. Each team will play a 60 game schedule beginning on November 6th. Every game will be broadcast on www.irn.fm.
