World Hockey Association 2 Press ReleaseCELEBRATION, Fla. World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) is proud to announce the new name for the educational incentive program previously called Grades for Blades. The new name is the WHA2 S.K.A.T.E Program.S.K.A.T.E is an acronym for Students Keep Achieving Through Education. We found out that the Western Professional Hockey League (WHPL) had a Grades for Blades program and we didnt want to infringe on the name of their program. WHA2 Co-founder and CEO David Waronker said. This gave us the opportunity to poll all of our WHA2 employees and members for a creative name for the program that will portray the positive effect we hope to have on childrens school achievements. WHA2 Co-founder and President of Hockey Operations Peter Young said. The WHA2 S.K.A.T.E Program will reward school children with a free ticket to any WHA2 game for achieving an A in any subject on their report card. Children who have perfect attendance will also receive a free ticket. It is important for us to encourage children to learn and better themselves. Therefore, we will also reward children who bring in a letter from a teacher stating that the child has been working hard to learn and improve even if they dont have an A or perfect attendance to show for it. Waronker said. The WHA2 will ice six teams for the 2003 2004 season: the Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, and Orlando Seals.
