World Hockey Association 2 Press ReleaseCELEBRATION, Fla. The World Hockey Association 2 (WHA2) today released the first third of the WHA2 schedule. The January schedule will be released on Friday, August 22nd.The WHA2 will release the last nine weeks of the schedule pending the release of the Orlando Predators arena football schedule. The WHA2 opening night match ups on November 7th feature Jacksonville Barracudas vs. Alabama Slammers, Macon Trax vs. Lakeland Loggerhead, and Orlando Seals vs. Miami Manatees. The Barracudas will open their season at home at the brand new, state-of-the-art, 15,600-seat Jacksonville Veterans Memorial Arena on November 28th. They will take on the Miami Manatees. Of the 53 games scheduled, 48 will be played on weekend nights. Two of the five weekday dates were purposely scheduled prior to a Thursday holiday. We are thrilled with the cooperation we have received from each of our buildings to come up with such a fan friendly schedule. WHA2 CEO and Co-founder David Waronker said. The WHA2 is also exploring the possibility of scheduling some regular season games in the potential expansion cities of Asheville, N.C; Daytona Beach, Fla.; Jackson, Miss.; Mobile, Ala.; and Tallahassee, Fla. pending available dates and city approval. Pre-season games will be played in suburban South Florida; Kissimmee, Fla.; Bradenton, Fla.; and Pelham, Ala. and will be released at a later date. We had several restrictions because of the new building in Jacksonville and a lack of ice time in both Alabama and Macon in mid-November. WHA2 President of Hockey Operations Peter Young said. But in Jacksonville SMG has bent over backwards to accommodate almost all weekend games once we get into the New Year. The final two-thirds of the schedule will be much better balanced and again will not necessitate many weekday games. The WHA2 will ice six teams for the 2003 2004 season and play a 21 week, 60 game schedule. The Alabama Slammers, Jacksonville Barracudas, Lakeland Loggerheads, Macon Trax, Miami Manatees, Orlando Seals will open training camps with player physicals no later than October 25th.
