Face-off time for the game is 7:05.Last Game: Last night, the Manatees spoiled the opening night of the Jackosnville Veteran�s Memorial Arena by defeating the Barracudas by a score of six to two. For the fifth time this season, the Manatees scored first in the game when Oak Hewer scored 5:10 into the 1st period. Darren Cain entered the offensive zone with the puck, pulled up at the right circle and found Hewer at the top of the left circle, whose one-timer beat goaltender Brandon Snee. Cain got his fourth goal of the season when he backhanded the puck past a sprawling Snee, who made the initial save on the Oak Hewer shot. Hewer�s assist on the goal would be the second of four points he earned on the night. Defensemen Liam McCarty got his first goal on the season on a Nowicki face-off win. Nowicki won the draw, gave the puck to Kevin Swider, who passed the puck to the waiting McCarthy at the blue-line. McCarthy�s shot from the point found the back of the net. Jacksonville�s Lyle Steenbergen got the next two goals for the �Cuda�s, but Sean Weaver prevented anymore goals with some stellar goaltending throughout the rest of the game, making a total of 36 saves on 38 shots, most of them quality scoring chances in the third period. The Manatees chased Brandon Snee from the nets after scoring two more goals in the second period. Oak Hewer got his second goal of the night, while Eric Perricone added a power-play goal at 13:48 in the seond. Perricone and Hewer ended the night scoring four points in the win, while linemate Darren Cain added two points to his totals. The line of Hewer, Perricone, and Cain totaled ten points all together. Finishing up the Manatees scoring was JF Picard, who got his first goal of the season one minute and 53 seconds into the third period. The Manatees power-play scored three goals in the game, while only allowing one Jacksonville PP goal. Manatee Notes: The Manatees are in sole possession of first place in the WHA2 with eleven points through six games. They have a record of 5-0-0-1, having earned a point in every game this season. They are undefeated in four games at home, and are scoring an average of 5.6 goals a game (through six games). The Manatees have only given up 20 goals, and have the lowest average of goals allowed per game. The Manatees have the second ranked power-play and top ranked penalty-kill in the WHA2. The Manatees power-play is operating at a 27.77% efficiency rate, while the penalty kill has killed off 92.50% (37-40) of their opponent�s power-plays. Through 5 games, the Manatees have four of the top ten scorers in the WHA2. Leading the way with 17 points, and tied for 2nd in league scoring is left wing Eric Perricone. Perricone nine goals places him 2nd in the league in goal scoring behind Alabama�s Paul Vincent�s ten goals. Oak Hewer is tied for fourth in the league with 14 points. Tom Perry is also the leading scorer among defenseman with ten points. Goaltender Sean Weaver is leading the league in wins with five, and with the win last night, is first in the league with a 3.32 goals against average. For the third week in a row, a Manatees player has been named the WHA2 player of the week. Sean Weaver took home the goaltender of the week award. Previous winners for a player of the week were Eric Perricone and Oak Hewer. Moving Up: The Manatees jumped up four spots in the ITC/Just Hockey �AA� Top 20 Hockey Poll, and are now ranked fourth overall among 70 eligible nationwide teams from various leagues.
